“Very nice decoration and details but...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011

I looked for a place to stay for 2 nights in Xanthi. The place is too noisy, due to the nearby traditional road (made of stones) and the cafe-bars. The first think I remember staying there was so much noise from the car tyres that I couldn't sleep. Something important enough is that there was no wifi access, although there was a sign and mention on the flyer. On the other hand, the room was extremely clean and comfort. The 3 stars on value comes from comparing all Xanthi's Hotels prices and services they offer.

“Very nice hotel, but the neighborhood is not always quiet.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

The reviews that other TripAdvisor members have contributed below are generally pretty accurate.

The hotel is very nice, a solid 4 star, with pleasant and helpful staff. It's modern, very clean, and has nice decor. Internet is free and fast. Rooms are large, nicely decorated, well appointed and with a full selection of amenities. I paid €60 for a single room (including breakfast) - a bit high by Greek standards, but certainly good value for the money. A similar hotel would be 2 or 3 times the price north of the 'olive belt' in France, Switzerland, or Germany.

Noise from the neighborhood can be a problem. The source of the noise is not the patio bars next door (they have apartments above them, and for that reason they keep the volume down), it is the university directly across the street. If there is a party going on at the university, it will be loud and can run as late as 3 AM. The rooms are quite well soundproofed and the windows and doors to the patios (all rooms have a nice patio balcony) are high quality, but sometimes that is just not enough to suppress loud music, racing motorcycle engines, and squealing tires from the university property. To be fair, though, all the other hotels in this city are also located on main roads or proximate to public squares, so I am not sure you will be able to do much better elsewhere. This is not a 'quiet resort' kind of town.

The folding panels that are used in place of a shower curtain are not as much of a problem as other reviewers have made them out to be. If you take a moment to set them up correctly, there will be no water leakage. An obese person might have difficulty fitting into the shower and closing the panels properly, though.

Pillows are really weird - they weigh about a kilogram each, and are very firm, like cushions on an upholstered sofa. Fortunately, the hotel provides an alternate choice of "normal" pillows that are available in the closet of each room. Where they got the idea for the very firm and very large regular pillows I do not know - maybe it is some kind of Greek custom.

There are no double or king beds, most rooms have two twin beds that are pushed together to form a single large bed. The result is quite acceptable.

The bar downstairs is quite expensive by Greek standards - €3 for a cappuccino and €3 for a very small (200 ml) Perrier. That's not a problem, there are literally dozens of restaurants and bars within a 5 minute walk of the front door of the hotel.

The night porter does not speak English, but all the rest of the 'regular' day and evening staff speak English well. Parking is free and appears to be quite secure, it is directly in front of the hotel. There is a very nice playground for the 2 to 7 year old crowd in the front of the hotel property.

All in all, it is a very pleasant place. The risk of neighborhood noise in the late evening is the only blemish on an otherwise very fine hotel.

Room Tip: Best to ask for a room on the end of the hotel opposite the hotel bar - it is a bit quieter.

“Nice Indeed BUT”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 May 2011

The hotel is fine ,spacy rooms , nice decoration nice personell.
BUT (there is always a but) the near-by clubs are playing loud so you can hear their music in the rooms even if they are located on the other end .
There is a silly panel-system at the bathroom that when you shower the whole floor flods and there is no drainage pipes at the floor.
Anyway.. the king size beds are paying you off.

“really nice and chic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2010

A really nice hotel, situated in the old city of xanthi, at a very good location when it comes to nightlife. The accomodation is new ,the rooms are comfortable, clean and decorated in a minimal style. The staff is helpfull.
The only two things considered negative are:
Though the bathroom is roomy and stylish, water is licking at the floor when having a shower because the doors do not close perfectly.
The cafeteria where breakfast is served is nice, and the buffet satisfactory enough, but some of the pastry cold.
I stayed there twice, and will stay again for sure.

“Good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2010

Very nice hotel compared to usual Greek hotels in terms of decoration (especially the bathroom), breakfast quality and general atmosphere. But beware: if you arrive at night, there is no English speaking person at reception and the suite is not worth paying twice (if you need the extra beds, get two rooms instead for the same price).
