“As Filthy As it Gets”

The location of the hotel is really convenient. It is in the city center with many beautiful shops and great traditional restaurants nearby. The staff is very friendly and polite, always willing to help and service you. However, the hotel itself is in an extremely poor condition. It is an old hotel and it shows. The rooms are VERY VERY dirty. The carpet on the floor and the furniture are older than me and the moment you enter the room a terrible smell is permiated. The blankets on the beds seem dirty and worn out and the sheets and the pillows smell bad. The bathroom had a terrible smell as well and the shower curtain had a disgusting yellowish color due to dirt. The air-conditioning unit in my room was out of order but I could not leave the window open because I saw a cocroach strolling outside.
However, the coffee was great and they offerred freshly sqeezed juice!

“Just very shabby, uncomfortable, and unpleasant.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 May 2011

Seriously bad. Can hardly know where to begin on the lost sleep, and lack of comfort. Hard Bed. Extra fee for WiFi. (so I went to the Flo Cafe on the nearby square), smelly carpet, long dark hairs in the blankets. Lots of dangling wires, mysterious plugs, idiotically small tv, and bathtub. Did I mention the smelly carpet. ANd the aroma of the grill across the street?Perhaps I got the midget room special? 'facial tissue' box in tiny bathroom had the most harsh green paper towels....good for scouring tire rims? and marginal breakfast without coffee on my second day....whew. Carpet was smelling bad, too.Good thing this was not a leisure trip. Door to my room was very thin and lacked any security chain or peephole to eye the hallway before opening door. Prize for smelly carpet? Guess I mentioned that! It just seemed even smellier as time passed. Larissa seems a nice town. But I would not stay at The Metropol ever again.

“Central location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2007

The hotel has the best location in Larisa on its main square. Rooms are big but they need renovation. I thing that for the money paied its ok. The free parking is another plus.

“Central location, has underground parking (bonus)”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2007

We stayed in Larisa on our way to Mt. Olympus. We originally wanted to stay in Litohoro or Katerini, but our agent could not find accommodations for us there. Im sure in the end we saved money by staying in Larisa as I dont think many people stop there (Greeks kept asking us why we were going there).

Larisa is a smaller town, but it has beautiful and lively central plaza areas filled with cafes. Our hotel was smack in the middle of this, so it was very easy to find restaurants. Being in the middle of a 'pedestrianized' setting made the hotel really hard to find however. You have to drive your car through streets filled with people walking around (this is a little disconcerting for Canadians...we cant do that at home!)

The hotel room was average, if not a little bigger than some of the other Greek hotels we stayed at. The bathroom was bigger, but the shower was still small (like all other hotels). We had a balcony overlooking the plaza area.

If you are traveling independently, you will be happy to know that there is a large supermarket not that far away (we found it just walking around)- its outside the central, compact area and on a larger road.

It was a good hotel for a stopover
