“Trying to live up to the standards”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2010

A member of the Classical Hotels & Resorts, the Larissa Imperial in my opinion manages to somehow live up to the challenge.

The classical decorations and a colonial like building gave a sense of a different era. Polite and friendly staff seems quite willing in assisting me whenever requested, but that is pretty much it.

I enjoyed my breakfast under the dome in the dining area which I believe is quite nice as there is a lot of natural light during the day, although the breakfast buffet could offer a greater variety.

The rooms are quite elegant and fairly sized, with adequately sized bathrooms as well. Most of the rooms I stayed in at the main building didn’t have a balcony which I believe would be very nice to have in order to sit and enjoy a drink while overlooking the pool. As far as my stay at the bungalows is concerned, I would personally not recommend them. The rooms had no carpets and they seemed quite basic to me.

Another minus is that the televisions aren’t LCDs and since the TV mount arms would ruin the aesthetics with a classic television set hanging on the wall, they were forced to place the TV set on a table which is quite low in hight and doesn’t make viewing very comfortable when lying on the bed.

Nevertheless, I believe the CD player and radio is a nice feature, which can help you relax as you work on the nice desk while using the free wi-fi.

Other than that, I guess it is a thumbs-up from me.

Thank you for taking the time to read my review.

“Beware coffee and milk for breakfast is being recycled. Healtrh and Hugiene issues.”

I spend 2 nights at this hotel. Having been there before, I was happy to stay again. Like other reviewers it is stated as 5 Star but is morfe of a 4 star at best. Staff is friendly but not organised at all.

What is very concerning is what I witnesed during brekafast. I just happened to get a table near the bench where the staff is preparing the coffees teas etc. I saw 2 employees emptying the carafes, that were returining from tables, of coffees back into the main pot. Same was done for milk. Fianlly, one emploryee was testing the water temperature as it was filling the teapot by using its finger.

When I was brought coffee I confronted the waiter, who could not understand what the fuss was about and she plainly told me that it was done in order to ensure that the coffee is mixed with the hot coffee so that the one served to the customer is warm. She did not seem to be aware of health and hygiene issues!

After I checked out I asked to see the manager, but was told he was away, so I spoke to the person in charge of reception who in turn brought in the Food and Bevergaes Manager. He appeared shocked but I did not beleive him. The fact that I saw at least 2 different employees doing this and tha the waiter seemed to find this OK practice it tells me that this may be company policy, which in turn is freightening!

The hotel appears to be 5 stars but the service lets it down. the staff are friendly but can't really help you with organising anything. the spa is out of action indefinately and their english competancy is poor for a 5 star hotel

“Beautiful hotel at a great bargin in the low season”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2009

First impressions were wonderful. The hotel and grounds were beautifully kept - I'm sure they would be even better with all the flowers in bloom. The rooms and common areas were decorated tastfully. The staff was very helpful and informative, except for one instance with housekeeping. It took over an hour to have one shirt ironed. We did dine in the hotel bar one evening and found the food was good. The breakfast in the morning was the same every day but the variety was amazing. We had breakfast for 4 mornings and only had the same thing to eat by choice.

“5* when it opened but certainly not now”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2009

It’s not that Imperial is a bad hotel, it is just that it is not a very good hotel and it certainly doesn’t live up to its 5 star pretensions. The room doesn’t seem too different to a Novotel room in size and quality. Meanwhile, our double bed is two singles with single sheets pushed together, there is a CD player with no CDs, no films are available on the TV, and the bathroom is tiny with cheap, plastic fittings and disappointing, meagre toiletries.

The minibar prices are obscene – 13 Euros for a beer and nearly 6 Euros for a bottle of water. A club sandwich is one of our room service favourites but costs 22 Euros here so we don’t bother. Is this some kind of ploy to get us all out of our rooms? We get our room drinks from the periptero (kiosk) on the corner and take all our meals at tavernas in the nearby square. Except, that is, for breakfast which is a lovely buffet.

On the upside, the outdoor pool is big and clean and the area is attractive and cool, essential in the August heat. We spent most of our time here, including breakfast. The spa was closed for the whole of August and wifi is free – yippee!

There is a general feeling of low level shabbiness – a stain in the bath, a hole in the sheet, rips in the sunloungers, damaged woodwork in the lift, plastic bags in the public bins, an overgrown tennis court. Yes, it’s fine here but for a hotel of this kind there should be more attention to detail, more innovation, respectful pricing and a wow factor!

Like a lot of things in Greece this was probably a great hotel when it opened but lack of maintenance and care have taken their toll.
