“Authentic Greek experience - highly recommend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 February 2011

After spending some time in Athens, my husband and I wanted to experience the quiet island of Hydra. We are from the USA and this was my first time to Greece. We made a reservation at the Phaedra and arrived on a Saturday afternoon by boat from Athens. Just a few blocks from the port, the Phaedra is located in a residential area. The owner, Hilda, was there to greet us and gave us a cup of coffee. Everything was very clean and the windows were open to bring in the fresh air and allow us to see the mountains. We got settled then walked down town to explore.
Our two days went by quickly and we enjoyed every minute. The breakfast included granola with yogurt and honey, toast, ham, cheese, jams, coffee and fruit. The cute breakfast area even had books we could borrow.
We would highly recommend the Phaedra to anyone who wants a comfortable place to stay in Hydra. It was more like being a guest in someone's home, it was so quaint. Wish we could have stayed longer, and it would be amazing in the summer!

“Can I go ahead and just MOVE IN now?!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 February 2011

I stayed here for the first time (but certainly not the last!) this past summer with hubby&friends. Lovely Hilda greeted us like we were long lost family and within minutes we felt completely at home on our favorite island! But what more can I say that hasn't been already said: Spacious, comfortable, spotless rooms with delicious breakfast and impeccable, friendly service? ABSOLUTELY. So might I add that Hilda may just have ESP, because it seemed like every time I was ready to send Mr.Man on a quest for my mid-morning/late-afternoon caffeine fix, there would be sweet, heavenly angel to the rescue Hilda, offering up a perfect espresso in hand--ok, so I AM SO MOVING IN!! As for the previous sourpuss reviewers, no, we were not returning friends or family, but we felt that way immediately and so of course we took pics with our gracious&adorable host, while you didn't even give it a chance! Also, this lovely&traditional hotel/b&b is in the perfect location, as close to the action as you'll want, because the last place you want to try and sleep is on the harbour where it can get very congested&noisy in the high season. Also I might mention we were there during the annual Miaoulia festival which is the busiest weekend of the season and yet the Phaedra was still a peaceful oasis and Hilda was always around and cool as a cucumber during all the craziness. Bottom line, we give Phaedra and Hilda an A+++ and we can't wait to get back to our beloved Hydra and our home away from home, Phaedra!
p.s. I am in hotel management at a super deluxe 5-star property, and when it comes to impeccable service, they don't come any fussier than me!

“So glad we found Phaedra!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2011

My family and I just returned from a spontaneous weekend trip to Hydra from Athens inspired by a warm weekend in January. It was hard to find a hotel with interconnecting rooms that would be comfortable for our kids while also giving my husband and me somewhere to retreat to after bedtime. Phaedra was perfect. The rooms were really beautiful and large with high ceilings and lots of light during the day, perfectly, clean and comfortably climate controlled. Our two separate bedrooms exited in one direction onto an incredible private balcony with views over the town and to the other onto a shared balcony that would have been great had we been there with friends after kids went to sleep.

I read the reviews after our trip and was surprised to see that the most recent review was negative and from someone who hadn't even stayed at the hotel. Hydra Island is not the sort of place for a Holiday Inn type of place and Phaedra is clearly a boutique hotel, but it is in every way a top notch accomodation... and our family travels a LOT. Hilda was charming, available, and extremely helpful. She arranged for us to hire a private donkey tour up the mountain to a monestary, which for us was a fun alternative to the short and expensive rides down on the port. Our kids couldn't have been happier... the freedom to run around without worrying about cars, Hilda's wonderful breakfasts, donkeys and cats everywhere, good local restaurants, beautiful walks, sun and sea, and Phaedra's peaceful retreat in the evenings. We were pleased to be able to enjoy the islands, even in the off season and look forward to coming back in the summer months. I highly recommend Phaedra!.

“Disappointing B&B”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2010

Telephoned the day before and told they had a room, got off fast boat from Pireaus, amazing island !!! Made our own way to the Phaedra, was close to port. Found it to be a very ordinary house more of a B&B certainly not what we would call a hotel. No views as quite closed/tucked in. The famous Hilda of these reviews was not around. So we left without staying as quite frankly it was not worth the money they were asking. Got the feeling that mostly family and friends stay there maybe thats why nearly every review has yet another photo of the owner? Plus read that they claimed Rick Steves said there a few months before, main reason we chose the place, well known respected travel writer and personality, yet were asured that this was definetly not the case as he stayed at another hotel on Hydra the Leto which we ended up at anyway.

“Great Honeymoon Stay in Hydra”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2010

Stayed here for two nights in the end of October. Hilda was great, very helpful. The hotel is very attractive and in a great location just inside the city (nothing is very far as the town is quite small). I would definately reccomend this place to anyone looking to go to Hydra for any reason.
