“Functional & friendly”

This was a tough place to locate when arriving during the night. The owner was waiting my arrival, though. I had learned from other reviewers that the hotel would purchase the scenic railroad tickets for you, and I was pleased this was ready and waiting for me. The property was clean, nothing fancy and served as a great jumping off point for the railroad ride.

“Great hotel so back for second year”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 June 2011

This is a lovely family run hotelwith a lovely owner. Everything spotlessly clean fresh towels everyday etc. and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. You only have to ask and it is done with a smile. The continental breakfast is more than adequate and equates with others in Europe. The rooms and ensuite are good and the small sunny balcony a bonus. Very close to several tavernas and as mentioned by others the Rack and pinion railway. The surrounding scenery and wildflowers in the Boufoushka Gorge and the Vouvraikos Gorge are breathtaking in April and May and also high up at the ski area on Mt.Chelmos. Butterflies and birds abound. Diakopto is a small frindly little Greek town where you are warmly welcomed by all. Highly recommended

“Friendly hosts, great location, dated rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 April 2011

A very friendly welcome. The owner speaks great English and offered to book our train tickets for us as we were arriving in town after the ticket office closed.

Very convivial reception area; free wifi. The room was quite dated (and cold) and they need a refresh (though this is reflected in the price).

Very central location less than 20 paces from the railway. And if you do the trip up to kalavryta then it really is worth walking back down the tracks.

So in summary, 3/5 for the "hardware"; 5/5 for the "software"

“Ideal Stopover; don't miss visit to Kalavrita via rack and pinion train”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2010

This is a nice mid size hotel in the little village of Diakofto. It is in the perfect location for the train through the scenic gorge to Kalavrita and you can safely walk back down the track, back to the hotel, allow about 3 hours.

The hotel is clean, has lots of parking and a nice pool with plenty of loungers.
The owner Paula is very helpful and is a perfectly fluent English speaker. She offers good advice on the surrounding area and can arrange for tickets on the train ; the station is 2 minutes walk away but at times seats may not be available as there are only a few trains daily up through the gorge to the village. Breakfast follows the mandated tourist board recommendations and for non Europeans may seem a little unusual with yoghurt, honey, bread, egg, cheese, juice and a piece of cake but that is the way it is. There are tavernas in the surrounding area if you look for them, and the one at the little harbour, a 10/15 minute stroll, and on the water is excellent.
I have been to Chris- Paul Hotel several times over the years and recommend it highly

“Peaceful, comfortable hotel in a citrus grove”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2010

This was our second visit to the Chris Paul hotel, and we were not disappointed. Our room was clean and spacious, and we enjoyed the swimming pool where there are plenty of loungers to relax in. The hotel and grounds are extremely peaceful and are set in a citrus grove. The staff were helpful and friendly and gave us good advice about the rack railway. The rail trip is definitely worth it, with great views of the gorge.

We also walked to the sea (about 15 minutes walk) and had a lovely meal in one of the waterfront tavernas. The taverna in the village is only a few minutes walk away from the hotel and is also very pleasant, with tables in a shady courtyard. There's no written menu, but the owner takes you into the kitchen to choose, and the prices are reasonable.
