“What a great hotel”

We stayed at the hotel Aeolis for two nights.
This was such an enjoyable stay.
The room was clean and tidy and the beds were comfortable we certainly had no complaints.
All the staff at the hotel were so pleasant. The staff were friendly especially the girls at reception who always had a smile and were very helpful.
We live in Kusadasi, Turkey and when we come to Samos again we will certainly stay at the hotel Aeolis.

“Good location and more than adequate accomodation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 July 2010

Booked as part of a Thomson deal (£370 flight ex UK + 7n B&B).
The location on the front in the middle of the action of Vathi is good if you are without a car. All the amenities are close by. That means of course that it is a busy area with traffic and bar noise part of the expectation.
I found the desk staff (eg Rania) friendly and helpful.
The room is a good size and large bed (even though booked as a single). A hard mattress, but ok for me. Aircon working but only just. Bar fridge and free WiFi in the room was useful. I had a room at the back which still had some bar noise until about midnight but the double-glazing eliminated it. Decor old-fashioned and small but clean bathroom. The shower rose kept leaping up from water pressure so had to be hand-held.
Breakfast from 7-10am is good - cereal, yoghurt, fruits, breads, eggs, sliced meats and cheese. The bar at the front was very popular as it is pretty central to the "strip".
Rooftop pool is adequate and clean and gives great views across the harbour.
Lots of eateries nearby and an "Atlantic" supermarket next to the church up the hill East of the hotel.

“Less than expected”

Our ferry schedule changed, so we had to spend a night in Samos. The room looked worn, though the location was close to the ferry port-which was nice. I would recommend with caution.

“much less than I expected...”

Unfortunately I chose to stay at this hotel for one night as it was close to the harbor that I was supposed to leave from there the following morning. As I booked a room with a front sea view, I realized from the first moment I entered the room, that the heat inside was profound. When I asked about the air-condition, they told me that they had to shut it down, as the weather was changing and the system couldn't decide on which mode (cold or heat) should function!! ( a very cheap and totally unacceptable explanation as most of them are able to function on a certain mode). As I thought to have a walk around the town, when I returned back to the hotel to rest during the afternoon, the heat inside the room was unbearable. From the other hand if you dare to open the window, the noise from the front road, where cars and motors are passing throughout the day, makes you feel like living in the centre of a big city. Finally in the evening I complaint again to the reception about this and they gave me the same response. The receptionist though, being kind and friendly with me, she told me that she would help me to put the air-condition on fan mode ( though I was expecting to be transfered in a more calm room than this one). Finally even this option was not adequate to deal with the heat of the room and the noise during the night was even more, due to a very popular coffee bar in the front of the hotel, full of young and teens and with loud music.
I really regret that I chose to spent my only day in Samos at this hotel, as the whole situation really ruined my accommodation there. I would definitely have chosen, knowing this, to stay in a more peaceful place out of the town in front of the sea, since I had rent a car. Definitely not recommended for those who choose to spend their holidays and enjoy the sun and the sea.
It's really a pity, otherwise this hotel would gain a better review, since the room was convenient enough, clean and tide. But for such hotels the proper function of an air-conditioning system is absolutely necessary.

“Better than we were were expecting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2009

After reading the reviews here we were a bit concerned about this hotel which we booked through Thompsons - as it turned out it was one of the best places we have stayed in Greece - though we do usually stay at studios. We paid £350 for a fortnight B&B so bear in mid this review is based on that.

With the warnings about the noise at the front and small shower in other reviews (thanks for those!) we booked a room with a bath and didn't pay the extra for sea view. We had a room with an ok view of the back pedestrianised street. - though there were plenty of motorbikes & scooters around. The hotel is ideally located for a couple of excellent restaurants immediately behind and to the left of the hotel as you walk from the sea. The roof garden was very pleasant with a great view of the bay.

The beds were ok - not the best we have slept in but not the worst either. The room was a reasonable size as was the bathroom but the bath is not large enough to lie down in - which we expected. The maid left presents of choclates and flowers and even arranged my partners night dress into a nice pattern a couple of days. She was really friendly and the rooms were spotless. The staff were all pleasant and the breakfast was excellent for Greece though the same each day - again not unusual.

My only real complaint was the heat in the rooms which made it difficult to sleep - there was no AC at this time of year and this would have been appreciated.

Samos Town is a busy working town as well as having resort facilities but it has a nice atmosphere and the old town is beautiful. There are good walks from the town and if you go along the coast to Kokarri and other bus stops the walking opportunities are endless - and the scenery stunning. The bus station is about 10 mins walk away along the bay.

We would have no hesitation in staying there again - would score 5 if it were not for the heat in the room and slighty uncomfortable beds!
