Just back from the Sunset Hotel, The brochure (First choice) was misleading in that Hotel is approx 500m from the beach, down a dirt track not the 150m stated. Consequently was dropped off at end of track and luggage followed later. Hotel is very quiet because of this with local horse, sheep and dogs the only noise. Rooms were usual Greek standard, clean but basic the aircon and TV are extras payable at reception. We had a nice room with views towards hills and Molyvos.
Pool area was good, staff there work very hard, and are happy to help. Rooms were cleaned every day and everywhere kept spotless. Food served in restaurant and bar area alongside the pool, was reasonably priced and good.
The walk into Petra each evening took us about 20 mins, Shops are limited to a few touristy souvenirs and the odd art studio type. Not the place to come for major retail therapy!
Bars and restaurants line the walk into the town and the sunsets are indeed spectacular. Some offer free sunbeds for the day, if you buy breakfast, which is good value.
In the evening, try the To Kyma bar for a beer and chat with Tim and his dad, watching the sunset directly in front of you, great oldies music and spectacular view which changes by the minute as the sun sets.
Then short stroll to Christos for a great, reasonably priced meal and very friendly staff who greet you like old friends.
The perfect end to a relaxing day by the pool or on the beach.
Be warned - we took a trip (6 euro by taxi) to Molyvos, this is not for the fainthearted or those with mobility problems, the main shops are up a hill, which is very steep. We took it slowly going up, a good excuse to look in all the shops, however coming down was a lot slower, the street which is pedestrians only is cobbled and was like walking in 5inch platform shoes! Pretty place but sunsets were better in Petra.
Overall a great relaxing holiday.
