“FANTASTIC HOTEL”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2010

We have now visited Petra 5 times and stayed at the Panorama Hotel 3 times, I just wish we had stayed there all 5 times. The views are FAB, the staff and family are very friendly.

The food and drink at the hotel are no more expensive then in the town of Petra itself. The greek salad at the hotel I have to say is the best in the whole of Petra. The food generally is very good throughout Petra, the veggie selection is also very good, stuffed peppers are absolutely beautiful.

The hotel and Petra are very relaxing and I would advise anybody to vist this beautiful hotel. We will be going back again next year!

“It hadn't altered in 8 years - Wonderful, not a 'Plastic Palace' in sight!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2010

We first stayed in the Panorama 7 years ago, when they dug up the German tank in the neighbouring field, so they could build more rooms for the hotel, this they have done very sympathetically and in keeping with the surroundings, it also has not affected the service given to all who stay here. The bed and breakfast offered suited our family well, with a good selection of foods available with cooked breakfast on offer for those who were prepared to pay extra. The coffee could had done with being a little stronger and hotter, but I'm being picky for the sake of it!
Lunch and dinner have typical menus for those on half and full board but do tend to be more expensive than local tavernas. Service is excellent.
The tavernas in Petra around the square and church area are fantastic, but you have to walk through town to get there and the tavernas on route need to be avoided - unless you like the 'pub' atmosphere on holiday where you can watch the football and take in the car fumes. Also, the fish restaurant on the corner needs to improve its cooking and service, good menu but terrible everything else - yuk!
We intend to go back again as this hotel is a perfect base for a holiday and gives you the best of both beach and poolside holidays. Lesvos is a lovely unspoilt island used by the Greeks for their holidays but is not for those wanting club life, binge drinking and the behaviour that goes with it, if you do, please dont come to Petra and spoil it for others.

We also had to run our business whilst on holiday and every help was given to us so that we had good internet connections throughout the stay.
The local fitness centre in Petra is also there for any who want/need to train or just work out, excellent friendly and helpful staff - Thank you to all who helped make our holiday special.

“A great venue for a relaxing week away”

Set on the edge of Petra, it's about a 10 minute walk to the centre of the town where there are plenty of tavernas serving good fresh Greek food and wine. It's about as far away as you can get from the airport which means a two hour transfer, but the views along the way are worth it.

The good:
The rooms are clean and spacious, with comfortable beds.
Sun loungers were always available around the pool, with plenty of shade.
The restaurant/bar prices at the hotel were no different from anywhere else in town.
Breakfast always had fresh bread, ham, cheese, yoghurt, honey and homemade jams.

The not so good:
Everything in the room was extra, e.g. air con 5 Eur/day, fridge 3 Eur/day, safety deposit box 1 Eur/day.
The restaurant suffered from 'creative accounting' on two of three occasions that we used it for lunch. As they don't accept cards (cash only) we decided to 'pay as you go' and therefore noticed the discrepancies as they happened. I can't imagine what some final bills would have looked like for people who elected to keep a tab at the bar.

If you want to spend time on the beach there are numerous sunloungers on the beach which belong to the adjacent tavernas. Provided you buy a drink from them you're welcome to use their facilities all day. The sea was clean but the beach is pebbly and uncomfortable to walk on without shoes.

The sunsets at this place are incredible! The best place to watch the sun go down is an icecream/pastries parlour approximately 15 minutes walk from the hotel. At the end of the road from the hotel to the beach, simply turn right and follow the road to Molyvos. It really is worth the walk. Try some backlava with a glass of white wine at sunset. It's the 'sister' establishment to the ice cream parlour in the centre of Petra.

Petra is a great venue for a relaxed, quiet week away from it all without the complete isolation of some of the smaller Greek islands. We didn't have a poor meal throughout our stay. The Panorama made an ideal base, and I would recommend it for anyone wanting to stay in Petra.

“OK not the best accommodation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2009

The hotel is in a lovely setting but I must admit we were very dissappointed with our room , being on the bottom level we had no view other than looking into the hotel kitchen ! If you booked direct with the family I'm sure a better room would be allocated , we booked through First Choice.
The breakfast was not the best I have ever had on Greece , ok the variety was there but the quality poor . I was very surprised to have to pay 3 euros per day for a fridge , this is the 1st time in all the years I have been to Greece that I have had to do so .
Because we ate out in the evenings I cannot comment on the evening meal , the menu was varied and the restaurant always busy.
The family that ran the hotel seemed very pleasant , but more towards the guests that stayed within the hotel and spent their money there , we prefer the sea and the beach to laying round the pool and trying the local bars and tavernas in an evening, we had some excellent meals during our stay .
Lesvos is a lovely island and Petra a very friendly resort with a good beach. Would go back but not sure if we would stay at the Panorama again.
A trip to the hot springs at Eftalou is well worth a visit and for 2 euros is excellent value for money.

“A gem of a Hotel and location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2009

After the gruelling two hour and bit slow drive from the airport it was so refreshing to arrive at a Hotel that immediately caught your eye. Dropped off at the end of a little lane and a short walk where your cases were delivered for you and met by one of the brothers who manages this hotel along with his parents. Great welcome and introduction. Hotel is set on about five levels, the top two or three have the best views, lower ones face the rear of the main complex . We were lucky enough to have the very top floor which is not suitable for those less able due to the climb but hey it was worth it as this is where the hotel lives up to its name. An unobscured view of all the bay of Petra, fields and mounains, stunning. Simple room with ample cupboard space and nice size balcony. Plenty of hot water from the shower. Only downside was the excessive charge for aircon/fridge. Aircon was €5 per day and the fridge €3 per day. Thankfully our room grabbed enough breeze so as not to cook at night so we declined the extra charges. So quiet tucked away down this lane overlooking the farms and sea, no noisy disco's or bars.
Pool was large and spotlessly clean and very well managed, plenty of sunbeds. The bar was very nice with its own snack menu and evening meal menu, had a much welcomed couple of large glasses of Mythos upon arrival to relax ourselves even further. Breakfast is a cold buffet style. Staff/family are very friendly and helpful. The hotel has a small library and internet access at a small cost including wireless. Every Friday is BBQ night so if you want can stay and enjoy this for €14 each which includes some drinks. After visiting other parts of the Western coast soon realised that this hotel and its location was a gem and very worthy of its 3 stars, was probably the only hotel in the resort with such potential views.
Petra is a stunning postcard view resort, no noisy bars or discos anywhere, just the distant chime of the church bells across the bay, local fishermen and traders going about their business. Beautiful mix of old and new buildings with lovely little lanes and shopping streets. We used Nirvana travel which is located just passed the square on the sea front for our money exchange which was far better than the hotel rate and got between €1.15 and €1.12 for our sterling travellers cheques. There are very few if any exchange outlets around due to charging systems by the banks who have made it less attractive for these type of agencies to sell, the manageress was very helpful and so glad we found them. Numerous restaurants line the main sea front road but our favourites were within the town square area. Kalderimi which is a grill restaurant that has stunning gardens and is just up the lane towards the rock at Petra next to the square, great food which cost the two of us on average €20 - €27 for a greek salad starter and main courses with house wine or beers. Our favourite was the Womens co-operative which when you see the views you can see why, a good table needs to be reserved by putting your name in their diary but they all have fantastic position. The food here is very special with all the home made, home produced type menu, similarly priced. A gyros kebab from the grill to take away will cost you €2.30 at the Kalderimi. There is one at Molyvos which is called the Gyros centre and has absolutely out of this world views as Molyvos is positioned on a high location, same price with great service for that faster type of food. There is a Ouzo distillery in the centre of Petra which you will soon find if you follow your nose.
A bus runs pretty much every hour or so to Anaxos, Molyvos or the hot springs at Eftalou with a fixed price of €1.40 any destination. Taxi will cost you €6 to Molyvos from Petra which is about ten minutes, we walked it one day in just over an hour where the views are stunning.
Try to buy any food shopping from Proton a large supermarket in Petra near the petrol station as the costs can add up at the smaller ones with the € strength against the £. Typical 500ml bottle of beer will cost between €1.00 - €1.20 in there and €2.50 in restaurant or bar.
A very quiet resort with a lovely rustic sandy beach stretching the distance of the resort. Sea temp was notably cooler than expected and varied from day to day and which part of the island you were on. Plenty of shade under the trees on the beach or the sunbeds that are offered free by the bars if you buy drinks. Daytime temp got up to late 30's C with a welcoming breeze.
Would without doubt go back to this resort and Hotel without any doubt.
