My partner and I recently visited the Country Inn Kalithea and had a great time despite the weather. As background we are 26 and 27 years old, like going out, nice food, nice places, don't mind eating local over finding English and have traveled all over the world. Hopefully that helps you out when reading this.
We read alot of reviews before going and booked everything through Thompson which was a first time but a pleasant and pain free experience.
The Hotel and Room:
it's situated on the outskirts of Kalithea (10 minutes walk) and close to an amazing and really gorgeous small town called Afitos (20 minutes walk). Upon approaching the Hotel teh drive doesn't look great but the hotel itself is really nice, small friendly and inviting, with only 18 rooms you're not going to get alot of hustle and bustle and everything is kept up to a good standard. Rooms are well suited to this, they offer a clean room, small bathroom, fridge, tv, nice balcony with chairs and table and a dresser table and hairdryer etc.
The gardens are really nice and the pool is a good small size with a really nice bar and outside seating area. basically it looks really nice and doesn't disappoint from the pictures you can find easily online.
Location:
its close to two towns and close to the beach so shouldn't disappoint. Myself and my partner didn't rate Kalithea, it may have been because we were out of Season, but it just didn't seem a really nice place to go out for a wander and the local shops and restaurants didn't look great either - it's set up for tourists though so maybe we were looking for more Greek local style which it doesn't cater to. outside of this though Afitos (20mins walk) is really nice and was exactly what we were looking for, with nice restaurants, a scenic cobbled streets type of place with good bars and lots of picturesque places to walk and visit.
The walk down to the beach is fine, I've read some reviews were people think its a dodgy path but there's a hand rail all the way down, its a 5 min walk down and no more than 10 minutes back up on this really nice woodland path. The beach itself is gorgeous and we had the luxury of no one on it when we went down to sunbath, apart from a local fisherman a good 100meters away who was happily casting off his line every half an hour or so.
The bus service and transport links are ok, if sporadic, but we found that it was easy to travel to other coastal towns and to also get to the big city Thessaloniki (over an hour on the bus). Taxi's were also easy to get around on.
Overall a great place for couples, maybe not the best for families but I dont know, a really helpful staff and well looked after place make it a really nice break.
I'd go back but we were unlucky with the weather as we hit a thunderstorm for three days. I would recommend this place to friends and family.
Room Tip: We got a corner room which meant we got a view of the sea, gardens and balcony.
