“Wonderful holiday Brilliant Hotel”

We stayed at The Country Inn Hotel during the last two weeks of Sept , our first trip to Greece and we loved every minute of it, apart from the storm during the first week but that didn`t last long.It was relaxation from the moment we arrived. We were met by George who carried our bags to our room which had a lovely sea view, and then met Nancy down at the pool bar who was very welcoming, she taught us a few words of Greek which was great and also recomended a couple of resturants in Kalithea which were used by the locals that were spot on and not to expensive---the food was delicious,we also ate at the hotel which was good as well.We had a few trips into Afitos which is a lovely village 20mins walk away with lovely resturants and coffee shops, cobbled streets and bakerys which sell lovely bread. Our room was kept immaculately clean by Ludmilla who was lovely and always spoke when she saw you.Musn`t forget Vicky who was brilliant as well very helpful at sorting out the local buses for us and the timetables. Nothing was to much bother for any of the staff wether it was phoning for taxis or extra pillows. We would recomend this hotel to anyone wanting a nice quiet relaxing holiday.

Room Tip: If you go into Afitos for a meal in the evening ask at the resturant to phone for a taxi back its on...

“Excellent small hotel from Thompson”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

My partner and I recently visited the Country Inn Kalithea and had a great time despite the weather. As background we are 26 and 27 years old, like going out, nice food, nice places, don't mind eating local over finding English and have traveled all over the world. Hopefully that helps you out when reading this.

We read alot of reviews before going and booked everything through Thompson which was a first time but a pleasant and pain free experience.

The Hotel and Room:
it's situated on the outskirts of Kalithea (10 minutes walk) and close to an amazing and really gorgeous small town called Afitos (20 minutes walk). Upon approaching the Hotel teh drive doesn't look great but the hotel itself is really nice, small friendly and inviting, with only 18 rooms you're not going to get alot of hustle and bustle and everything is kept up to a good standard. Rooms are well suited to this, they offer a clean room, small bathroom, fridge, tv, nice balcony with chairs and table and a dresser table and hairdryer etc.
The gardens are really nice and the pool is a good small size with a really nice bar and outside seating area. basically it looks really nice and doesn't disappoint from the pictures you can find easily online.

Location:
its close to two towns and close to the beach so shouldn't disappoint. Myself and my partner didn't rate Kalithea, it may have been because we were out of Season, but it just didn't seem a really nice place to go out for a wander and the local shops and restaurants didn't look great either - it's set up for tourists though so maybe we were looking for more Greek local style which it doesn't cater to. outside of this though Afitos (20mins walk) is really nice and was exactly what we were looking for, with nice restaurants, a scenic cobbled streets type of place with good bars and lots of picturesque places to walk and visit.
The walk down to the beach is fine, I've read some reviews were people think its a dodgy path but there's a hand rail all the way down, its a 5 min walk down and no more than 10 minutes back up on this really nice woodland path. The beach itself is gorgeous and we had the luxury of no one on it when we went down to sunbath, apart from a local fisherman a good 100meters away who was happily casting off his line every half an hour or so.
The bus service and transport links are ok, if sporadic, but we found that it was easy to travel to other coastal towns and to also get to the big city Thessaloniki (over an hour on the bus). Taxi's were also easy to get around on.

Overall a great place for couples, maybe not the best for families but I dont know, a really helpful staff and well looked after place make it a really nice break.

I'd go back but we were unlucky with the weather as we hit a thunderstorm for three days. I would recommend this place to friends and family.

Room Tip: We got a corner room which meant we got a view of the sea, gardens and balcony.

“Excellent, lovely and clean, beautiful surroundings”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

We have just returned from a 7 night stay at the Country Inn. We were impressed with the hotel and surroundings. The pool and bar area were immaculate and plenty of sunbeds and parasols for both sunseekers and sunburners like me.

The room was lovely and comfortable and very clean. Ludmilla the lovely maid kept it spotless and changed linen and towels daily. We would have loved to squeeze her in our case she did such a good job.

Breakfast was average, there was not much choice and unfortunately the margarine was off on some days. Boiled eggs were served one day out of the 7, it would have been nice to have a bit more variety or an option to upgrade to a full breakfast.

Bar snacks were good, reasonably priced and service always came with a smile from Vicky and Nancy.

I was not keen on Kalithea at all, it was not geared up for British tourists and the food we had there was abysmal. It is well worth the 30 min walk into Afitos or 5euro in a taxi. In Afitos itself, Steki and Tomato and Pepper were our best meals.

I would advise anyone to hire a car if you visit here to see some more of the area. We hired with Avis - check the prices online first and then mention it, we got a better price and free upgrade to a larger car. We visited Nea Moudania, Sithonia and Thessaloniki - not for the faint hearted!

All in all we enjoyed our week. The accomodation was fab but you do need a car to explore the region unless you just want a week R & R.

“Another amazing holiday...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

We returned to the Country Inn 2nd week of September and had another brilliant holiday. The Hotel is such a little hidden gem and in our opinion, it deserves far more than its 3 stars. The location of the Country Inn is just perfect, with a short walk to Kalithea, or a little further the other way, to Afitos. This means that you have the best of both worlds - Kalithea is slightly more commercialised -although not terribly so, and Afitos is more traditionally Greek. The Hotel is spotlessly clean, even compared to 5* accomodation we have stayed at, and the maid service is daily. The pool area is just perfect for relaxing and never seems to get too busy - perhaps this is because the hotel has just 16 rooms? whatever the reason, you almost feel as you are staying in your own private villa! The pool bar area is very reasonable for either a snack at lunchtime, or a meal in the evening. George, Nancy and Vicky and Aggi are wonderful people who are so welcoming, and the place feels like a home from home for us now. Nothing is too much trouble for them. We previously stayed at the Nostos (next door) last year as we couldnt get into the Country Inn (we'd left it too late to book) and we can honestly say, it is not a patch on the Country Inn in any respect. We have already booked to go back to the Country Inn next year, and we can't wait!! thanks all for another wonderful holiday and see you soon!! x
