Having read the previous reviews, we booked this hotel with great trepidation, and were pleased to find that it wasn't as bad as we'd been lead to expect.
The communal areas were nicely decorated and well looked-after. The swimming pool was clean and inviting, with plenty of loungers and umbrellas. There was a separate kiddie pool and a small playground for the little ones. There was also a nice shaded area with tables and chairs where you could chill out with an ice-cold frappé or a beer.
We got the impression that the hotel had recently had a facelift, and although the standard of workmanship seemed a bit poor in places, that was a minor gripe and didn't affect our enjoyment.
Our room was a good size, the bathroom was adequate, there was a fridge and the air con worked. The cleaners visited every day and did a decent job.
Breakfast was plentiful, but repetitive and of poor quality. Rubber cheese, cheap ham, boiled eggs, bread, packaged cake, yoghurt, mini packs of butter, jam, honey. Coffee came from a coffee machine (not freshly brewed) and the orange juice was of the UHT variety. Dinner was much better, there was usually a choice of two mains (one veggie) served with either chips or rice, a couple of salads and fruit for dessert. We had dinner at the hotel twice, couldn't fault it, it was excellent value. The bar was open all day, providing coffees, drinks, simple snacks and tokens for using the internet (there were 3 PCs for customer use in the hotel lounge).
The hotel is located in Gastouri, a quiet area close to the Achilleion, within easy reach of Corfu airport and the town (approx. 15 mins drive). There aren't any tavernas or bars within walking distance, so you will need to have a car to get out and about.
If you're looking for a basic, family-friendly hotel, you won't be disappointed. If you want luxury and quality service, you need to look elsewhere.
