Few days ago we return from our trip in Corfu. We stayed in Villa de Loulia and it was just wonderful. Amazing place. I really disagree with the other review. The service was unique. It was the friendliest service that we have ever seen. My wife and I, we travel a lot and it is something that we don’t say often for a hotel. In Villa de Loulia you feel like your own home. The garden, the rooms, the people, everything makes you feel welcome and relaxed. It’s a place that stays in your heart and you always feel welcome among friends. We will definitely return.

This place looked fabulous on the internet and only seemed to have received positive reviews, which is amazing, so we went with high expectations.

And whilst the historic property did look like we imagined, I couldn't help being disappointed by several things.

Firstly, nobody mentions that being in the heart of the village on the edge of the main road, the property is actually quite noisy, and at night scooters and lorries can be heard whizzing past your head if you have the rooms that overhang the road.

Also, the beds are VERY hard and uncomfortable, but this may be general in Greece.

I didn't think the service was outstanding at all. In fact, it was extremely casual and when we mentioned that our wine was actually corked they just tried to argue that it wasn't at first!

And whilst it is quite nice to have lazy breakfasts (from 9.15 til 11), there is absolutely no flexibility. ie. no way you will get it any earlier if you want to go out for a day trip or something.

The grounds are nice but rather unkempt and there was a plague of wasps while we were there, from a nest that really needed to be cleared.

So, all in all, considering the price, which is extremely high for Greece, it was somewhat disappointing. I think perhaps that they have traded on their earlier good reviews and got somewhat lax.

We have just returned from a weeks holiday in Corfu and spent the last two nights at Villa de Loulia. It was just perfect; from the congenial but not overbearing hosts, to the fantastic home cooking, airy elegant rooms and the beautiful gardens. It's even more lovely than the internet photos suggest. The perfect place to unwind. 11 out of 10 !

The Villa de Loulia is a 200 year old mansion, which has been sympathetically and elegantly transformed into a 9-bedroom hotel. The setting, in a timeless village just a short stroll from a delightful beach complete with fabulous clifftop bar, is a million miles away from the touristy side of Corfu. The Villa itself, complete with a good-sized pool in well-kept gardens, is both very comfortable and idyllically serene. The service combines real warmth with unassuming efficiency (we had our credit card eaten by a cash machine at the aiport as soon as we arrived, and they couldn't have been more helpful in sorting things out for us). And the breakfasts - best taken on the sunny terrace by the pool - are first class, particularly the homemade preserves. Unconditionally recommended.
