“Unprofessional management”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

This is a very nice property in a perfect location. At first we were thrilled by the size, the decoration and the view of our room. Sadly the service was so bad and the management so unprofessional that it ruined everything.
We had booked 4 nights after recommendation of a friend, although we had to pay a lot more than he did. When we asked for the same price our friend had paid the answer was that “if you book well ahead you have to pay more, if you come without booking then you can pay less”. No need to say that well ahead booking usually means better price not the contrary. Moreover when we arrived the hotel was not fully booked, so we felt very bad about having a reservation with higher price.
Second problem was service. During the days we stayed there the hotel staff was just 3 persons. A lady who was the owner-general manager-receptionist, another person who was helping as receptionist and was the bartender at the same time and a girl responsible for preparing tables and serving breakfast after that cleaning all the rooms and after that preparing tables for dinner. No need to say that you had to wait a lot to find a table for breakfast, wait a lot more for the buffet to be refilled and on top of that the cleaning of the room was inadequate. Totally unacceptable for a 4star hotel!
Finally, an afternoon when we returned to our room we found a letter from the management that informed us that the next evening a wedding reception would take place in the hotel. That means no sleep for the whole night. And definitely the wedding reception was arranged long before our reservation, but nobody bothered to inform us when we were making the decision to book in this hotel. So, that was it. We had enough! We refused to pay such a high price and not be able to relax and get some sleep in our room. Next morning we left the hotel. We had booked 4 nights and only stayed there for 2. Please note that this is the first time in our life that we did that.

“Fantastic Chilled Out Holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

We stayed at the Almyra Aug-Sept 2011 and had a fantastic family holiday.

Firstly the location of the hotel is perfect, overlooking the hills and sea, the views are amazing. It is a 15 min walk down into the harbour, a walk that we all enjoyed to start off the evening. The hotel offer a shuttle service which picks up at approx 11pm from the harbour to bring you back to the hotel so you dont need to worry about slogging it up the hill - as it is steep! They also offer various other times in the day should you need to come back from a trip etc.

The Hotel is very stylish and homely, the staff and owner were all very friendly and we got to know them well during our stay. The rooms were very nice and clean, my parents had the suite at the top of the hotel which was lovely and a beautiful veranda overlooking the hills and sea. Great for pre-dinner drinks which we did every night before going out.
The pool is lovely, and the kids pool was great for reading your book and dipping you feet in trying to keep cool.
We only ate lunch in the hotel, but the food was great and pretty quick.

Fiskardo itself is a lovely harbour town, beautiful at night all lit up and always buzzing with activity. Different boats moor up every day and so you always have a stream of new people walking around and also you get to look at some of the most amazing boats. The restuarants were generally very good, but our favourite was the resturant owned by the Almyra hotel. We there about 5 times and food was fantastic. Service was always very friendly and if you are staying at the hotel you get a certain % off your food bill which is always great.

All in all a fantastic holiday, my parents had been to the hotel and area twice before and so knew it would be good, but for us it was our first time and we would definately go back and take some freinds next time aswell. Aug into Sept was also a great time to go as weather was still very hot but the hotel was quieter and on some days we were the only ones round the pool which was fantastic!!

“Fiscardo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

Fiscardo was by far the prettiest part of Kefalonia that we visited. A beautiful and romantic little village, with a waterfront lined with restaurants overlooking the boats. The best restaurants we found were Alexis and Apagio. The Almyra was a nice quiet and clean hotel with a fantastic view, 10 mins walk from the beach or marina. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Most rooms have a sea view....this is a must!

“Smart hotel in a smart village”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

The Almyra is a very good 3 star hotel. We have just returned from a very pleasant week there.
The hotel is stylishly decorated and looked particularly cosy and welcoming when we arrived during a thunderstorm. Our room was a small, side sea view room which was above the reception area. We had not realised that the hotel was on the main road into Fiscardo and were concerned at first that our room was on the side of the hotel nearest to the road and would be noisy. Although we did hear some traffic noise at various times during the day it did not cause any problems. At night the double glazing was so good that we didn't hear a sound.
Our room contained a fridge and complementary tea and coffee and was very comfortably furnished.
We only had breakfast at the hotel. It was very good with a choice of two hot dishes each day as well as all the usual things. The hot dishes were varied each day as was the fruit . The staff who served breakfast were extremely efficient, but seemed to be a little shy at first. Possibly because they didn't speak much English and we speak no Greek.
The hotel bus runs in and out of Fiscardo at sensible, convenient times, you really dont need to have a car unless you want to tour around.
Our favorite restaurant in Fiscardo was Ellis. We were not impressed with Tassia's.
Best beach was Ag Ierousalim with inflatable sea-going sunbeds and a classic Greek Taverna called Odisseas.

“Such a beautiful hotel with amateur service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

Hotel is run by a lady who claims to be a French teacher but has limited experience in Hotel management. The cleaning ladies, that also serve breakfast have inefficient command of Greek and speak in an impolite manner. Breakfast is poor especially coffee. If you want to hav lunch you better get some snacks from a nearby kiosk. The airconditioning in the room was set to 21oC with no posibility to adjust it as the control panel is covered and screwed with plexiglass!! The international Hotel rule of having fresh towels when u throw them on the floor does not apply here as they pick them up again. And if u ask fresh towels from the reception they will ask u to spot the cleaning ladies and do it yourself!
