“Maria-anna.... superb!!”

For nigel and myself (sharon) this was our first visit to the maria-anna, kefalonia, we arrived on sunday 29th aug for 2 weeks, We were so lucky as our room had a sea view and the views and the sunsets are amazing. The room was absolutely fine, twin beds, balcony, fridge, ensuite shower room. sometimes the shower wasnt to hot but the weather was - so it didnt really matter! On monday nights the owners gergori and jenny invite all their guests to a meal at the hotel...(free of charge), the island only has flights on tues and sundays, so monday evenings are about welcoming new guests and saying goodbye to departing guests. The food is delicious...greek salad to start, chicken with roast peppers and pots and melon to follow, but the menu on this does change from week to week, after the meal, rhiannon ex olympic rep and personal friend of theirs, runs a quiz... this is a brilliant non invasive way of meeting and getting to know your fellow holidayers!! It has to be said we did have so much fun and laughed and laughed!! even though we came second to last!! On wednesday evening there is a bbq and for 12 euros it is the best value for money, but if i were to go again i would defianately have the fish, that looked amazing, i found the amount of meat you get just a bit to much!! desperate dan portions describe it well!! The pool was gorgeous and cleaned every day, the bar snacks are a must as they are delicious...particuarly the homemade pizza for 6 euros is more than enough for 2 to share. The island has lots to see and is stunningly beautiful but in order to appreciate it you really do need to hire a car as the excursions are expensive and we were able to see so much more. The maria-anna is half way up the hillside and the hairpin bends are scary!! The walk down to the beach is not to bad but I did nickname the walk back 'cardiac hill' !! Only did it once and never again!! Jenny and gregorio and their son peter were fantastic, nothing was ever to much trouble and they treated you like they had known you for ages. I will definately holiday there again, we met some fantastic people there.... ann corrina&mostyn, sandra and jeff......(if you read this sandra the ring is on my finger!!) jeff&alison, alyson, catherine and simon and nick and amy, billy &juanita, peter&laura to name but a few.....we all clicked and all added to each others holiday...helped along by J&G's efforts. A brilliant place to stay and would reccomend to everyone.

“Absolutely fantastic!”

We have just returned from a week in Lourdas, staying at the Maria Anna hotel. It was our honeymoon and we had our one-year-old baby with us.
We cannot praise the hotel and staff enough. We were allocated on arrival, as were most of the guests, and we feel lucky to have stayed here. The owners, their son and the lady who helps with breakfast and cleans the rooms are so friendly and were so helpful with our baby.
When we arrived, I must admit, we thought the room was very basic, but we were quite happy because it was clean and typical of Greek accommodation. But then we opened the doors to find a fantastic balcony with table and chairs and the most amazing sea view. We looked to our left and saw the big pool with plenty of sunbeds and the lovely bar and we just loved it. I was trying to find a hotel with balconies and a swimming pool in this area and there weren't too many of them so we were very lucky.
We didn't have a cot when we arrived (Olympic's fault) but Rhiannon, the lady who helps out there, organised one for us. Rhiannon runs the quiz on the Wednesday night - 12 euros for big barbecue meal with ice cream dessert - lovely.
The meals at the pool bar were really nice and you can just tell that this family prides themselves on providing a fantastic service. There was a highchair there too, which was really useful for us at breakfast. Breakfast was lovely and a real bonus as we weren't expecting it. It was so nice that we went down every morning for it when usually we would have just stayed in bed. Rooms cleaned to a high standard every day. I was often in the room when she came in to clean as I was keeping my baby out of the sun during the hottest time of the day and she was very thorough. Lots of little touches like books in reception, lilos for guests to use, a parasol for every two sunbeds. Nothing is too much trouble.
We borrowed their iron most nights and there is an emergency laundry service, which Rhiannon said we could use as we had a baby. We paid the 30 euros for the air conditioning and it was well worth it - walking back into the freezing cold room at night was so nice!
As for Lourdas itself, don't go if you want a rowdy holiday. It's not that kind of place. If you want a really nice, chilled out, friendly place, then it is the place for you. Everybody was so friendly - at Aphrodite's, Casa de Blue, Spriros, Greek Tavern - food so lovely and reasonably priced. Also. Aphrodite's has a little children's play area and a highchair and Greek Tavern has a highchair too - a relief when you have a small baby.
I have already looked at going back for our next holiday - we would go back again and again, and everybody we spoke to said the same.

from the moment we arrived, Jenny was enthusiastic to show us our room , a sea view , good balcony , basic room , but we wouldn't want anything more .We paid 30 euro for air conditioning but didn't really need it .A charming hotel all staff very friendly . Gregori , Jennys' husband cooked mousaka for all the guests Monday evening as a way of welcoming new guests and saying good-bye to those leaving . There was also a B.B.Q thursday evening for 12 euro , good food and a fun time together. Breakfast was juice , serial or eggs with toast , tea , coffee .Room very clean , small bathroom and shower but water good pressure. A good location for very good restaurants ; La Mer , Olive Lounge Zorbas and Spiros, nice meals ang good friendly service.Hired a moped from Sunbird , Tassos very helpfull and showed us the best places to visit , and when it broke down , within 25 minutes a car with trailer came from Argostoli to pick us up and take us to collect a replacement. All the people on the island are so kind and welcoming it is hard to accept. Visited Argostoli and took ferry to Luxouri and went to Petani beach (north west ) then south to Xi beach.Took road to Skala but turned off to Poros road up and through the beautifull valley , then right up the mountain roads towards Sami to visit Melissani Cave and Dragarati cave then on to Agia Efirmia. If you like getting out and about I would recomment buying a map for 3 euros and asking someone where the beautifull places are on the island. We were only there for a week and found it so relaxing from the moment we arrived and have never known a week go so quickly ; loved it !

“Perfect”

Stayed at Maria Anna Hotel for a week, mid July with a friend. We wanted a quiet but friendly hotel and got exactly that. On arrival we expected in an inland view overlooking the mountains, but had a lovely surprise as we had a sea view room, with spectacular 180% panoramic views, with Zakynthos on the horizon.

Rooms are basic, but have fridge, kettle, balcony and shower (this was occasionally temperamental with getting hot water, but added to our quirky holiday). Free welcome meal on Monday is a must, as is the quiz and bbq (€12) on Wednesday at the hotel, as the food is delicious, its good fun, and it’s a nice way to meet fellow guests.

Hotel only has 20 rooms, so never feels crowded, and there is certainly no fighting for sun beds, in fact you often have the pool to yourself. Breakfast consists of toast, cereal, yoghurt, and eggs of some description, simple but all you need.

Lourdas is a quiet 'resort', with four supermarkets / shops, and a handful of taverna's... Would certainly recommend the Olive Lounge, La Mer and Casa de Blue as places to eat, all the staff are very friendly and you're guaranteed good food.

The hotel is also within walking distance of 3 excellent beaches, Lourdas and Trapezaki (both accessible by road, with amenities), and Kanali beach (only accessible down a steep track, with no amenities... but definitely worth the effort as you can have the beach practically to yourself!!!)

If you want a quiet, relaxing, get away from everything holiday, I would certainly recommend this little hotel. We met several people who return year on year to the Maria Anna Hotel, and after staying there I can see why.

Perfect!!

“The best holiday in Kefalonia”

I was AOA and was allocated at the Maria Anna. When I got of f the transfer bus I thought I had done the wrong thing when I saw the road down to the Hotel but I was welcomed into the fold immediately. My room was 101 inland view with kettle fridge and air-con.It was kept spotless by the most lovely Ellathoria who seemed to actually enjoy her work. Gregori, Jenny and Peter are amazing people .A mention also to the handy man who kept the pool and grounds tip top.He also washed my walker down when he watered the car park and plants.. The food was served until about fourish but was very nourishing and filling. Yes there is a cruel short climb up onto the main street but worth it to get my morning cappacino freddo and cake from the bakery at the end , where I would sit and watch the world go by. Most of the guest were repeaters and I can see why .I had a ball (and a nice cool dip)on the Mondays(free night) and barby on Wednesdays with quiz from the lovely Rhianon. Came last but had a good laugh.Being a lone traveller I would not hesitate to return to the Maria Anna.See you all next year. My thanks to Olympic holidays for a fab holiday.
