Although I usually don't like large or even medium size resorts, Elies Resort in Sifnos is the exception that proves the rule. Located near Vathi (or Vathy), a picturesque and sheltered harbor, frequented by sailboats, Elies Resort is set among hundreds of Olive trees (hence its name I suppose), hibiscus trees and bougainvilleas, superbly maintained. Artfully designed, the complex is very pleasing to the eye, spreading amphitheatrically on a 50,000 sq. meter site with wonderful views of Vathi harbor and village.
The Suites are decorated in an enjoyable minimal style and offer many amenities, from the soft bedding with fluffy pillows and supple comforting mattresses to plush bath towels, beach towels and Cypress spa robes. They offer two bathrooms, a small kitchen area, a spacious bedroom and a separate living room, both of which face the wonderful patio with a private swimming pool with salt water. We wished we had a better Internet connection in the room but this is only a minor issue.
Housekeeping is praiseworthy. Both ladies who serviced our room were very eager, competent and most of all, pleasant. The Front Office ladies were very hospitable and helpful throughout our stay. And so was the Room Service gentleman who took our breakfast order each morning. After the 2nd day he knew our preferences so we didn’t have to repeat them anymore. It surely makes a difference, knowing that someone is paying attention! Room service was well-timed and well presented and so were the servers. Many thanks to all.
By staying at a Suite in Elies, one gets the feeling of vacationing in his/her summer private home. The surrounding area is tranquil and as unusual as this may sound, the property provides an “old-world” Greek summer charm, pure and genuine yet luxurious.
Vathi is 15 km. driving distance from Kamares, the island’s main port but it is well worth the drive. A short 5’ drive, from Elies resort to the coastal village of Vathi and a short walk after that takes you to one of the best tavernas of the island, right by the monastery of Taxiarchis, named ‘To Tsikali’ where you dine on only local specialties on tables set right on the seaside.
Perfect island, great people, wonderful hotel.
