Difficult one this, as we grew to like it here and overall had a very good time. And the price was reasonable, if you include the car hire (even though it was probably the oldest car in the Cyclades - it WAS a good runner)
We were not helped by the fact that for 3 of our 6 night stay, the wind howled and blew making it very difficult to take full advantage of the islands wonderful beaches and our first day added in the grey skies and heavy rain so that it was not the best of introductions. Sifnos is a beautiful verdant sophisticated island but more expensive than some of its neighbours.
Overall we enjoyed our stay here. The views are simply awe inspiring and you have a front and rear balcony both beautifully situated. The build is generally very good and as you can tell from the name, it is in a very high position. Rooms are VERY clean and linen is good quality. The units though ostensibly sensational are in reality not very well thought through, with such basics missing as a frying pan, kettle, no cereal bowls, poor cutlery and no spatula. Overall a feeling that they have skimped meanly on basic facilities, while at the same time, giving you hi fi and tv, which frankly are a bit of a waste of time to people like us who are touring the Greek Islands. Could have done also without the soiled toilet paper all over the ground outside the kitchen window! That docked a point off our rating.
Greatest thing - apart from the view - was Sophia who worked tirelessly and endlessly to make your stay a good one and she was amazingly helpful. The owners were very much in the background and were hardly seen. Sophia was available to help in every way and to advise. She is a true gem and the hotel frankly would do a lot worse indeed without her.
OK we have mixed feelings.
The Lighthouse is just about close enough to Faros to walk it. Faros has a couple of small beaches that can be very nice if the weather is okay and a few small tavernas and bars plus a limited supermarket. Some stayed a week there but it was too limited for us and frankly we would have preferred to stay in Kamares the main port. We were particularly impressed by the Hotel Delphine which would seem the ideal choice. With its sublime infinity pool and dramatic position.
Some might love the Lighthouse - it is romantic and a place to sit on your balcony and take in the view. I suspect that more intelligent more charming aware owners could have made a lot more of it.
Thanks Sophia you were great!
