This is the most relaxing hotel we have ever been to!

We made a last minute booking when we decided we needed to include a higher level of relaxation in our trip to Greece. We chose Sifnos because the reviews said it was quiet and perfect for recharging.

I cant explain how lovely this island is, and this hotel is the jewel in the crown.

The Petali Village is set high on a hillside, so in the day you can see the ocean and the white sugar cube houses across the Island. At night the whole scene looks as though it is covered in a thousand twinkling stars. It really is so lovely.

The owner, Georgio, is a real gent. When I emailed him to see if he had any last minute availability, he emailed me back with an hour to tell me exactly what he had. He answered all of my questions and did everything he could to make the last minute changes to our trip as easy as possible.

When we arrived at the Petali Village we immediately dumped our bags and headed for the pool. This is the most idyllic pool I have ever visited. Most of the time there is nobody else around, but even when there is, everyone is so relaxed that you really wouldnt even know.

Giorgio and his wife have a gorgeous dog, his name is Perro. Perro and Giorgio's adorable son patrol the hotel grounds like they run the show. They were one of the highlights of our stay!

The breakfast at the hotel is delicious! They serve some kind of raspberry cake....tad heavy for breakfast but my god, it's delicious!

I cant say enough about this place. Everything about it is perfect, all the way down to details like the amazingly comfortable bed and the huge pillows. I honestly had the best nights sleep of my entire life at this hotel!

You need to go! Honestly, you will not regret it.

Sifnos is a gem of an island if you're looking for all the cyclades have to offer, with a lot less of the shoulder-to-shoulder crowds. This hotel puts you in a fantastic spot, a 5-minute walk up the path from the centre of the tiny capital - Apollonia, and high enough to give you picture-perfect views from your private terrace or the swimming pool ... looking over the town towards the sea. There are cheaper hotels around, but the Petali Village provided a large, comfortable room, a good breakfast and staff who seemed to care. We used this island as a ferry stepping-stone between Athens and Santorini, (via Milos) and were delighted that we did. You can explore the many lovely little coastal villages by a regular public bus, or - better still - do some of the sublime walks that connect the villages by pathways through the rugged hills and vineyards. Our best day; a stunning two-hour walk from our hotel to the nearby former capital of Kastro, occupying an imposing clifftop position above the sea ... with a truly excellent lunch at the Astra hotel in Kastro. On an island known for it's great food, this little restaurant stands out.

My wife and I recently spent 3 days here, all too brief, and were very sad to leave. Georgios and his staff have done everything necessary to make their hotel of high quality. The location is excellent, a short walk from Appollonia, which we thought was the nicest place to stay on the island (unless it's important to you to be on a beach). Sifnos itself is a wonderful island, up there with Folegandros in our opinion as interesting and scenic but not overrun with tourists. We definitely hope to return ourselves for a longer stay at Petali Village some time soon. As a side note, it is sad that many American tourists are avoiding Greece now, partly because of the negative press over the economic problems, but this is such a huge mistake. What could be better than a week at Petali Village?
