In 2003 I wandered into the foyer of The Hotel Asimina and met the proprietor, Pothitos Mendrinos. After showing me through his great little family owned hotel, I nominated the room I would like next time I hoped to be in Santorini.I have had that room in 2006 and 2009 and I know that with enough forward notice I will have it again in 2011.
Pothitos, the hands on owner, Phil the Greek Australian Pom, the Egyptian Greek ladykiller, and the rest of this great staff go out of their way to ensure you want to come back to them again.I go back in 2011 feeling like extended family.
I find the rooms to be meticulously clean, location is superb, watch the donkeys finish their trip up the 1000 steps from the harbour, about 1 or 2 minutes walk and you are looking out over the Caldera and you are right at the start of shopping and restaurants.
Although it is hard to find better modestly priced food than the hotel cafe/restaurant.
Most of us like to experiment with dining when we are on holidays but believe me it is hard to walk away from the Hotel Asimina kitchen.
Janet and I had friends with us in 2006 and my sister in 2009. Everybody left looking forward to returning someday. With luck and good health I will continue to do so.
This is not a five star hotel but the help and hospitality you receive from the Hotel Asimina team eclipses many of the up market accommodation at which we have stayed.
Do yourself a favour.Stay with them.
