“Beach, pool, restaurant, shop & great rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2010

We stayed here for four nights in July 2010
Highlights - very clean rooms, great air conditioning, a bath, good shower pressure, lovely pool, right on the beach, free wifi, pick up from the port. Gorgeous flowers all around the rooms too. There's a shop with all the bits & pieces (toiletries, food) you'd need and a restaurant with good food at reasonable prices. There's also facilities to wash clothes. We didn't do it, but there is windsurfing or scuba diving on the beach too.
Lows - none really other than it's a bit out of Naousa (sp?) but there is a free bus from the camp site or the public bus
I would definitely stay here again & so would my four travel companions!

“Don't bother”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2010

Adequate sized room however hardly any windows, small patio (shared with next door bungalow), room stunk of fresh paint, no kitchen facilities (small fridge), no duvets, only 1 pillow per bed. Pools were both empty, the shops/restaurant/bar was not open, there was rubbish and half construction all around the grounds. Windsurf hire was expensive. Pickup from ferry was 45min late, then reception wasnt open and we had more waiting. Went to our room and after seeing all facilities decided not to stay. Location is isolated with few facilities and it seemed under renovation. They shouldnt have taken our booking - will be good when all is up and running, hopefully for peak season.

“Perfect place to kick back and relax”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2010

My absolute favourite thing about Surfing Beach Village was the friendly staff. Although they were a bit late in picking us up from the ferry, there after, it was fantastic! Surfing Beach Village is a little bit remote - you will need to rent a scooter, atv or car if you want to get around the island - but was perfect for relaxing. The beach is gorgeous! The bungalows were not big, but they were a great size for two people, and very clean. We also had our own balcony to relax on, and with the breakfast included, you seriously can't beat the price. This place was cheaper (and far better) than a hostel. As mentioned, you'll need to rent a vehicle if you want to get around, and I would recommend getting one from in town (Naoussa) not from the company affiliated with Surfing Beach Village, as we did get ripped off there. However, if you mostly want to stick around the resort and only go out in the evenings, you won't even need to rent a vehicle, as they have a very convenient shuttle service. All in all, I thought this place was great, and it is definitely where we will stay if we're back in Paros!

“Cute little surfing village which is great for a getaway.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2009

We chose to stay at Santa Maria Surfing Village mainly on price - the bungalows were extremely cheap which was proving uncommon for a lot of Greek Islands accommodation. We were not sorry for our choice - in fact we were pleasantly surprised. The bungalows were quite clean (and I have high standards) and quite spacious enough for two people and their luggage. The twin beds were mounted on a solid marble base which meant we had to be satisfied with sleeping quite close together but it was far enough not to set off too many personal space alarms.
The bathroom was also a reasonable size and quite clean. The handheld shower with a hook only at waist level proved something of a challenge but at least there was a shower curtain to contain some of the splash.
The facilities at the surfing village are quite reasonable. There is a small supermarket with a good range (our bungalow had a fridge), a bistro type eatery open in the afternoons and evenings selling decent Greek food (salads, moussaka etc) and residents of the bungalows get breakfast included. Breakfast is basic - cereal, yoghurt, sweets etc - but still good.
One real advantage of the surfing village is its proximity to the beach - it's literally next door, about a 100m walk from the bungalows. There's a beach bar, umbrellas and watersports down there. The village also has a really beautiful pool if the beach isn't your thing or too crowded.
Something to be aware of is that Santa Maria is some distance from the main towns. The nearest is the village of Naoussa which is about 3km away and the capital, Parikia, is about 11km away. The surfing village has its own minibus that runs a few times a day into both towns and there is also a public bus stop at the gate every couple of hours. The timetables are posted around the amenities but should be loosely interpreted. We didn't have much trouble getting ourselves into town and back though.
There is wireless Internet access around the main reception building but I couldn't get it to work. Staff asked if I was using Windows Vista and when I said I was they shook their heads and said it rarely worked with Vista so be aware if you're modern!
I suspect Santa Maria Surfing Village really jumps in the peak season as it has plenty of camping accommodation in addition to the bungalows but since we were at the end of the season in early September, it was really quiet and a great place to unwind. I wouldn't call the staff overwhelmingly friendly but they weren't unfriendly either and did their best to be helpful. Overall a very pleasant stay.

“Great Location and pool”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2009

We loved this place! I went with my 2 daughters (10 and 13). We loved the fact it was a few minutes to the beach, the watersports offered (though we couldnt book lessons as it was too windy at that time) and the fantastic pool. Very cool trance and rave music played all day just gave it a very chilled out feel.
The bus to and from the village was ace, and the driver very kind to come back and pick us up from the town though he had to make 2 trips!
Breakfast was ok too.
Couple of things to be warned about: take lots of cash, there are no atms nearby (nearest in Naoussa) and the shop and self service restaurant dont take cards. The place could have done with a couple of washing machines but the facilities were fine. Rooms were cool with a garden patio and nice setting.
Would definitely recommend and may return in the near future.
