Four years ago I arrived in Mykonos on a cruise, so excited to finally be in the Greek Isles! As I rode wide eyed into town on the shuttle, we passed the most glorious hotel on the side of the road, and I stared at the beauty! I was enthralled with Mykonos Town and vowed that someday I would return for more than a few hours. On the way back to the ship I once again stared in awe at the beautiful white hotel on the mountainside and thought that someday I needed to return and stay in that hotel! A dream? Maybe...
Well two weeks ago I finally made the dream come true. I planned a trip to Greece and with help from a Mykonos expert, I was able to find out the name of the hotel I had longed to stay at. The prices were outrageous, but I decided to totally spoil myself and splurge for 2 of the nights and stay in a room with my own pool. What luxury awaited me!
The hotel van met me at the ferry when I arrived. I was excited to be making this dream come true. On entering the lobby I saw that the white beauty of the outside continued into the inside. As another couple was also checking in their reception person told them they had been upgraded. I was a little upset that I hadn't been, but then I had reserved the room with the private pool anyway. Everything was elegant, from the champagne with the blackberry in the glass upon arriving, to the tour up to the room. And the room was one from the webside, beautiful! All white and the pool was gorgeous. I had just the bed I wanted from the pictures so it did feel like a paradise.
Unfortunately I got sick the first night with a terrible cold and spent the next day in bed and lying on the padded bed on my balcony all day. Unfortunately what I hadn't thought about was that the gorgeous infinity pool on my balcony was NOT heated! It was so cold that it was impossible to enjoy it. A sad reality for me. Something I wish I'd been aware of before reserving that room this time of year.
I took the hotel shuttle into town for dinner and asked that they just put some fresh towels in my room since I hadn't had them clean it so I could just stay there all day, but when I returned they had cleaned the entire room, even though it was evening when I finally left. They continually asked if there was anything they could get me or do for me. I found the people to be very kind and helpful. They were very kind and patient explaining different restaurants and directions.
I liked that their shuttle was available to take you to town whenever you needed to go. Since they can't actually drive into the town, you are let out on the outskirts. I took a taxi back to the hotel because they were easier to access and it was just 3.50 euros, so not bad. I know some don't mind the walk, but you have to take into consideration that there is no sidewalk and you are walking on a narrow 2 lane road.
I only ate breakfast at the hotel and it was lovely. The sunset views were lovely too, but each of the nights I was there, cruise ships were docked and part of every picture of the sunset. It was so windy this time of year on the island, but I loved that too.
It's true what others say about the shuttle passing and as it did and the ships' passengers stared up at the elegant hotel, I would think to myself, that they too, could be a guest there someday! I didn't mind at all, having it near the road. After all, that is how I had originally found it.
I had a nice stay and felt that the staff was kind and helpful, but there was a stiff, formal feeling there. I moved on to another 5 star hotel on a different part of the island for the next part of my trip, and had quite a different, and absolutely wonderful experience which I will review on their site.
Cavo Tagoo is a place to see once in your life! Even if it is just for a dinner and tour.
Room Tip: I think it would be wise to always ask if an upgrade was available, it seems if it is, they are good...
