Just returned on June 10th from a 7-day stay on Folegandros. I found the island charming, traditional, calming, non-touristy and beautiful. We stayed at a hotel not listed on this site - it is called "ampelos", and is located on the hillside overlooking Chora (in fact, overlooking the much discussed Chora Resort). For about 1/3 of the room rate of the Chora Resort, you get a family owned and operated property with personality. It is run by Anna and Fotis Papadapolous, and their son Theo. It was built just a few years ago, but modeled after a village - with 10 different rooms, each with patio or balcony, mini-fridges, hairdryers, nice bathrooms. There's a common room, where you can get a continental breakfast or join other visitors in a game of backgammon or canasta. The infinity pool overlooks the town of Chora, the sea, the Panagea and tends to be a gathering place where guests end up getting to know each other. A 10-minute walk gets you to the charming town of Chora, the tavernas, shops and the old Kastro. I would definitely recommend both Folegandros and a stay at Ampelos.
