“MIXED FEELINGS”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2009

Went there for good sea swimming but only able to swim in sea on 2 out of 7 days due to rough sea. Had evening meal in restaurant on one night (too many!) - food abyssmal, breakfast boring. Nice sitting by sea to eat meals though. Walk to Old Town takes you along dirty main road. Crazy barman who played music at top volume on 2 nights til 1.30 - 2am - had to complain twice before something was done. Apart from that, rent a car and go south to beautiful calm sea and beaches, drive through mountains wonderful.

“Great Location a Little Gem”

What a great find this was just 25 mins walk to the Old Town. The walk was a bit scary because of no pavements in places, but it never put us off. The rooms were very clean, and clean towels & bedding changed when left out with good showers and plenty of hot water most have Sea Views. Breakfast was on the terrace right on the beach fantastic location and buffet style typical greek assortment. The Hotel also do a la carte menu at night,we never tried the a la carte because you have fantastic restaurants in the old town and on the water front. Not many English at this hotel just Germans and Dutch not that was a problem all spoke and were very polite.Swimming pool area very nice with sun beds and a great bar.The beach was sand and peebles with free sunbeds and sun shades, with the clear, clean, warm, Agean Sea just a couple of metres away.
The quality of food in the resort was to a high standard and good portions and prices.
The quality of wine on Crete was very good. The Old Town was very attractive with many bars and shops, and restaurants and a great atmosphere.Taverna's to try are La Renzo this was a first class Taverna great food and wine.Castello also very good food. Erofili very classy and bit expensive but worth the money. A trip by local bus to Chania is well worth it costs 12 euro return, takes about an hour from the Bus Station,

“Fantastic Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2009

Just returned from the Petradi Beach Hotel. It was lovely, positioned on the beach itself, and offering free sunbeds and free airconditioning. The hotel is spotlessly clean, rooms cleaned daily. The restaurant is excellent, breakfasts are good and can be taken outside looking out to sea. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The position of the hotel is on a main road which is very busy, so a sea view room is definitely a must. It is about a 20 minute walk into Rethmenyon, but this is pleasant walking mostly on the sea front. The old town is lovely and there are lots of shops and restaurants amongst the narrow old streets. Our holiday was excellent and I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone. Transport from the airport takes about 2 hours on the coach, this is the only negative thing I can say and would probably recommend getting a taxi direct from the airport. At the time we visited the Petradi Beach we were about the only English family in the hotel, the majority of guests were Dutch but this was not a problem for us as they were all very friendly and they made great efforts to speak to us in English.

We absolutely loved this hotel and will definitely be going back again next year.

“Perfect Hotel, 30 min walk to town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 March 2009

Very good hotel, bar and restaurant, it is on the quieter side of the town, next to the beach. When we stayed there the weather was poor so we hired a car and travelled south to some very nice beaches.
The hotel staff (particully the Barman) where very helpful in the advise of places to visit.
Hotel room were as you would expect for the rating of the apartments.
Lovely place, area and certainlly will visit again.

“Fantastic hotel on the quieter side of town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2008

We (male & female - mid 20s) chose this hotel from a selection of ones in Rethymnon from our travel agent's brochure mainly because the brochure reviews were so good and we didn't want to be in the centre of the resort.

There was quite a lot of English information available about the hotel on the Internet but I've tried to write a review that covers the things that I found it hard to find out before we visited.

1. Location
The hotel is on the quiet side of the resort and you can walk to the Venetian fortress and town in about 20 minutes. The walk was fairly flat although you do have to walk along the side of the road for a few hundred metres - just watch out for the Greek drivers! There are a few small shops and kiosks on the way so you can always stop and buy a bottle of water if you get tired.
The hotel is on the beach (quite small and quiet) and backs on to the main route out of town. There is a lot of traffic throughout the day and night, however our room was a sea view one and we couoldn't hear the noise from the road once in the room. If you hire a car there is room for 5 or 6 cars to park for free in front of the hotel. If you want to rent from one of the main car rental companies you will have to walk to the main beach road in the resort which takes about 45 mins. If you want a taxi then reception will call one for you which will cost €5 to the town.

2. Room
We booked a standard double room on bed and breakfast basis. There were two single beds pushed together to make a double, A small kitchen area with sink, two electric hobs and a fridge with small freezer compartment. The bathroom had a small shower, toilet and sink. There was free air conditioning in the room which worked when your key was in the slot and the patio door to the balcony was closed. The balcony looked out over the pool with views from the Fortress along the north bay of Rethymnon. The cleaners were very good and towels were changed daily if required (except sunday).

3. Food/Drink
The staff were very friendly and would always stop to chat with you and ask how your day had been. Breakfast was a standard continental-style buffet with a bit of variety but pretty much the same every day. You could eat indoors or at the terrace restaurant by the beach. From midday the restaurant served light snacks and in the evening a more usual Greek style menu. The food was lovely but you soon worked your way thought the menu, Again the restaurant staff were really friendly and managed to remember most people's names!
The bar by the pool was open from late morning until early morning and was well stocked with beers, spirits, cocktails and wine. If you were lucky enough to end your night there then you could expect a few shots of Raki (local spirit) on the house!

4. Summary
This hotel would be ideal for anyone who doesn't want to be in the centre of the resort and doesn't mind walking 20 mins (or paying €5 for a taxi) to reach the tourist sites. There is a brilliant pool, beach, food and drink available at the hotel and a bakery and small shop nearby to buy any extra food. The hotel would be ideal for families although the sea was quite rough while we were there and only suitable for strong swimmers. Most guests were aged mid-20s to 40 and nobody we met was antisocial or caused problems in the communal areas.

I'd definately go back if I run out of other places to visit first!

  • Liked — Staff friendliness and views from room
  • Disliked — The walk down the road to reach the centre of town
