The Avli apartments are nice but pricey at 215 Euros a night in late September. These are stylish rooms in a former Venetian style palazzo with every detail thought out – such as slippers, mini bar, radio etc. Much as you would expect for a 4 star hotel in any big city. Our room was nice, though smaller than we expected and a bit dark, with a building opposite and it quite close proximity for the view. The welcome was warm and service helpful, with Thanasis managing the place extremely efficiently. Breakfasts were very good too, with plenty of choice and flexibility in the time you want to take it. We ate in the restaurant two nights and it was good, though prices the same as London. The wine list is extensive, though fairly overpriced, with 100 % mark up on the on shop prices for the ones we selected. Overall, our stay was really pleasant, but we wouldn’t return because of the quality value ratio. In Crete you can find fantastic rooms with great, fresh breakfasts for anything between 35 to 80 Euros a night depending on level, so 215 Euros is quite a hike.
