Have spended 10 days there on 2005, with wife and small kid, and have only words of praise for this hotel. We've been given spacious room with one smaller connected room for the kid. Kid's room have had separate bathroom and even separate portable air condition (what I find very usefull, cause adults can sleep with a bit colder settings and still not worry if it's too cold for the kid). We had a great view from the terace(on the pool and the sea),,, Both bathrooms were clean, spacious and very well maintained. Food was pretty good, with a lot of choices (especially dinner). Lobby is also very nice(every floor also have some kind of a smaller lobby with some magazines, books and nice furniture). What I liked a lot, lobby was always very peaceful and quiet at any time, with no more than 10-20 people in it. Stuff was always helpful with hotel manager moving around almost always, discreetly checking is everyhing ok.The pool is great, spacious and clean. During ten days, I've never found more than 10-15 people in the pool, which is great. Now some minuses: There is nice small kid's area with nice small pool, but that children pool is more or less always occupied with some older people laying around and jus sitting or standing in it (probably not swimmers, who are afraid of the bigger one). However, we enjoyed with our kid in the main pool. One minus also goes to the hotel beach, which looks nice and sandy on the pictures, but it's not. Laying on the beach is OK, it's filled with nice sand, but swimming in the sea is another story. There is a lot of big stones and the concrete in the water (it's obvious that there was some kind of dock or marine in the past). However, hiring a car is a must (knowing the beaty of old town in Rethymno, and the island itself), so finding a good beach is not a problem. I recomend Bali, just 2 minutes away with car. We did it for 7 days and it was worthy. The old part of town (near the marine) is beatiful with narrow streets and a lot of bars and restaurants. There is nice water park near Chania, and a lot more to sea on island on the south side too (if you are without kids of course, cause don't forget, it's biggest island in Europe).
My brother went to this hotel with a girlfriend last summer (2006), and he was very satisfied too.
At the end: what I find very important with reviews is this: Some people may like one place, other don't. You can find that for almost any hotel on this site, and ask yourself: who is objective here? The point is: It's not "Four Seasons", (but it's not 300 Eur per night, neither). It's like almost brand new 4-5 star hotel, which is run on a very professional way (not that easy to find in the Greece) and which is, in my opinion, (and I traveled here and there across the world) worth every cent you've payed for.
