“Fantastic Friendly Minos Hotel”

The Minos Hotel Rethymno is a truly fantastic hotel, with its friendly owner and family, pleasant and helpful staff all help to make a memorable holiday. The hotel is in a perfect position, 100 mtrs only from the beach, whilst a steady walk either along the adjoining road or the beach road brings you into the old town. 20 mins strolling and taking in the view of the harbour on the way, indeed a pleasant walk. The hotel; has a great reception area, spacious and very accommodating, comfy seating in pleasant surrounds. Our room{standard] looked toward the pool by reception and toward the road into town. This is a busy road but noise minimal, when door close , no noise. The room was spacious, spotlessly clean, linen/towels changed regularly. Comfy beds and a fridge and balcony came with this room. Food was delicious and plentiful. No one should be hungry! There is a choice of two pools both equally good. A very cosmopolitan hotel, very interesting with all nationalities. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: I can only speak for standard room but have no qualms about booking the same again. Traffic noise is...

“friendly staff, good hotel”

Nice room, bowl of fruit, water and wine , and a kettle for hot drinks, and fridge. The air con was noisy, we were on top floor, so maybe quieter lower down?Though my husband wore earplugs and slept well!
The food was VERY good especially in the evenings, with greek dishes, lovely salads, and delicious greek baklavas etc for dessert.
The reception staff went out of their way to help translate greek for us on some of our purchases.
Great place for couples and older families. No pool for toddlers or young children..

Room Tip: room overlooking pool will give best view towards sea. , on top floor at least.

“Good location”

Excellent hotel in good location for resort - close to beach and a pleasant walk to old town and the Venetian Fort. We had a superior room with tea and coffee facilities, fridge and a balcony overlooking the pool. The A/c worked perfectly and was also quiet which was good as we had to have it running through the night as it was so hot when we were there. The only downside was that each room only had one key which operated the electricity on entry, presumably the reason being that you couldn't leave the a/c running whilst nobody was in the room. All the staff were pleasant and helpful. The food was buffet style which meant there was always something to suit every taste. Sunbeds were plentiful and there were always some available. There is a Spar shop just across the road from the hotel which was cheap for Greece prices. We found it much more expensive than UK. We enjoy walking whilst on holiday and we booked a trip with 'Nature and Adventure' which is located on the way to the old town - www.nat-adv.gr.- to S.Antonio's ravine,a visit to the Potami dam, lunch in a taverna and a visit to the Monastery of Arkadi. We had a minibus and there were only 8 passengers. Our guide ' Manuel ' came from the village where we ate and was very pleasant and informative - what he didn't know about Crete wasn't worth knowing.

Room Tip: Ask for 2nd or 3rd floor - ground floor have restricted views.

“Great resort, reasonable Hotel but spoilt by attitude of restaurant management.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2011

The resort was a lovely historic town with fishing port and narrow cobbled streets. Not too many British (we were) and lots of locals so had a bustle to it even near the end of the season.
There was a wide sandy breach right next to the centre of the town which stretched for miles but turned quite stoney after about a mile.

The hotel was clean and well presented but slighted badly designed. Some of the balconies faced coridors in the hotel and others joined onto a roof terrace area. I would have thought that most people would want a balcony that is private. Not one that people can walk passed the front of!

The biggest negative with the hotel was the attitude of the restaurant management.
Being in a nice warm country one naturally wants to eat outside. The hotel had set tables outside and we got there as soon as the restaurant opened to ensure we could get one. The hotel told us (and others) that we could not sit outside until more of the tables inside had been taken. This was very bizarre. We could either wait (for the empty tables to become available!) or sit inside. We couldn't even see outside as they had drawn all the curtains. Other nights they even reduced the number of tables outside and told us (and others) that none were available. Why they counldn't make a feature out of it and allow people to sit where they wanted I have no idea. Very strange.

On a position, the reception staff were very helpful (the ladies anyway) and sorted any problems we told them about quickly. Also when we got there the porter was already waiting outside to take our cases.

“Minos Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

The hotel is comfortable, excellent staff, two great pools and good public spaces....but the food was cold & bland except for the freshly cooked omelette at breakfast and the meat at dinner, but there was always plenty of fruit & bread etc.The noise at night from the hotel machinery (fans?) was almost constant we had little sleep.
