“Hotel good, but some rooms are of very poor quality”

The Pearl Beach Hotel is very well positioned on the beach outside Rethymnon which is walking distance or a short bus ride away. The grounds are pretty if a little bitty but that may be due to the fact that there are two hotels a 4* Pearl Beach and a 5* Aegean Pearl in the same compound, although the more pressing reason could be that it took over a neighbouring hotel. As a result the room we initially got was unrefurbished and not brought in line with the rest of the hotel, of very poor standard, small, cramped with a bathroom that was very poorly fitted out ( the bath tub in which you were also expected to shower was a little dangerous as it was very small and had a step in it...easy to trip over).

The food was good and the rooms clean, and the new room we were moved to for the last two days, an improvement.

Rethymnon is a lovely place to stay in, whether you choose to stay put and explore locally or whether you catch the bus into town or hire a car and explore the rest of the island, all of which we did. If there is one trip you should not miss it is Arkadi, Margarites Eleftherna. Margarites is a wonderful village ( specialises in pottery) and has tavernas with excellent food and a gorgeous view. Eleftherna is a gem of an archaeological site and you will be glad if you decide to explore it.

Other Excursions : Of course Knossos, Phaistos etc worth seeing. Chania, most charming little town, even the harbour reataurants were good value.

“Relaxing, friendly and I ate too much yummy food!”

Even though we arrived at 6am Saturday morning, the night staff were welcoming and ensured we settled in quickly and smoothly. Breakfast later that morning was delicious with a really good choice - try Greek yoghurt with chopped fruit and a dollop of chocolate sauce just as a starter. We were able to put towels onto the sunbeds in the morning, provided we used the beds within 2 hours which was fair enough. The pool was clean, well maintained and not overcrowded and the beach was just a few steps away....get their early if you want a proper sunbed and brolly at 6 euros a day. Lunch - try 'dacos' or one of the other Greek dishes. Overall, staff were helpful, our room was tidied daily but a quick sweep of the floor would have been welcome - a layer of sand from an early visit to the beach was still there on the day we left at the end of the week but that was a minor detail in, what was a super holiday in a really lovely hotel. We will return ASAP!

“Good location & service”

Some hesitation if it deserves for Excellent or only Very Good. But finally I give Excellent - as the service quality is superb. Even the evening program was cool to - I usually do not enjoy it but here Tom the Mag was fantastic, table tennis tournament was OK :)
Apparently there are rooms which still require refurbishing and we have got one, with small bathroom and shower in the bath tube :( . Upside was that it wasn't exposed to sun so we didn't even used airco. There are rooms already renewed.
Pool is not big but is deep 2,7 m :) which is very good, clean. Then there is second pool same size for Aegan Pearl hotel which share some facilities, and is basically 5* same owner hotel.
Food very good, variety of choices.
Location superb, bus (every 30 min, 0.9eur) to Rethymno center - or rather 20min. walk via promenade to city center.
Beach: sandy, dirty at the first glance, but not as bad as it seems to be. In the water first 5 meters, no sand but some stones, but secure, no sharp edges, no need for extra foot protection. Later sand. Water clean and nice colour. Sun beds on the beach 2x3euro.

“Truly a Pearl of the Aegean!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 May 2010

We stayed for about two weeks at the new Aegean Pearl which is adjacent to the Pearl Beach Hotel (where we have also stayed in the past) and an "extension" of the same complex. When we arrived at the Aegean Pearl for the first time we were pleasantly surprised, to say the least. It is a beautiful and spacious facility. The staff are much more than courteous and hospitable--they exemplify the true meaning of Greek/Cretan hospitality! We felt like we has discovered our second home! In short, our experience was extraordinary in all respects! I can not recommend the Aegean Pearl and its sister hotel, the Pearl Beach, highly enough!

“Amazing!”

Amazing! We have stayed many times at the Pearl Beach Hotel and this year, we stayed at the Aegean Pearl Hotel, a new hotel on the same property. The best features of the Aegean Hotel are it's incredibly friendly and hospitable staff, the wonderful, clean and new shower (great for after a day in the sun!), the extensive breakfast buffet (included in the price of the room), the free entertainment in the evenings, the numerous pools, and the clean, modern, fresh decor. We just returned home and are already planning our next trip to stay at the Aegean Pearl. As we have been to Rethymno, Crete many times, we are familiar with many other hotels, but after our extensive review of the options, we always come back to the Pearl.
