It depends on what you expect from a holiday. In this case, I think I was more disappointed with the fact that Rethymno was a very small town; you get to see most of the things there in a few days and from what I had found out about it I really expected it to be a bit bigger.
On the other hand, if you have another 1000-2000 euros for various trip around and on the island (for two persons), you would probably have a nice time there. However, it is too expensive. A trip to Santorini is 200 euros per person. Not to mention different beautiful beaches in Crete that one should see, visit and explore. Again, a lot of money needed to go around. It is a big island. One should also try and visit some of the other towns in Crete. Rethymno is a boring place, more for older people. Nothing special to see. Shopping is excellent: again, money, money : )
As for the hotel itself, it is ok. What I didn't like is that you have a very busy street between the hotel and the beach so even if you have a room with a sea view, the traffic distracts your attention. in my opinion, it's no enjeyment at all. Besides, the side that faces the sea is always sunny, so, very hot there.
Cleanliness is ok; location, too, (for moving around).
The food was excellent, but the service ... They take away the food very early in the evening. Even if you get there a bit earlier you don't find all the food any more. What has been eaten, has been eaten.
Finally, the most irritating thing about the hotel were "The Greek Nights". They were everything but Greek with oppressive behaviour of ushers who dictate to you where you are going to sit that evening for dinner, not allowing you to sit alone with your partner, and forcing you to spend the whole dinner sitting with total strangers. I was absolutely stunned and appalled by this behaviour and unfortunate hotel ideas. ??!!!
The swimming pool is too small. Besides, it's strange and not attractive at all or relaxing, to enjoy the pool while cars wild away on the road in front of you.
Rooms were ok.
They charge you for water during the meal; it costs more than in any shop.
For anything you want to drink you have to pay; if you don't want anything they impolitely take away the glasses in front of your face.
