“Not bad at all!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2006

Spent 2 weeks at this 3 star hotel in September.

Position. Great. Just across the road from the beach where loungers and parasols cost 4 euros a day. 10 minuite walk into centre of town where there are numerous restaurants and bars.

Reception. Very helpful and friendly.

Rooms. We were two couples and had 2 rooms. Ours was on the first floor with a picture window overlooking the sea and a side door leading to a small balcony. Our friends had a fourth floor room which was smaller but had a very large terrace with sun beds and overlooked the beach. The airconditioning was always available and very gentle!! Quite a lot of traffic on the road most of the night but with the windows closed this was not a problem at all. The bathrooms were quite small but adequate. The hot water could be a bit hit and miss at peak times. A working fridge at no extra cost.

Cleanliness. Very clean. Sheets changed every 2 days. Towels also changed every 2 days which we found a bit of a problem with wet towels cluttering the bathroom up for a day. All the public areas were well kept, even the swimming pool which was cleraned regularly, but I never saw anyone in it!!

Dining. This is where this hotel looses points dramatically!!! The breakfasts were adequate but no more. The evening meals were less so. Very bland and not at all appetizing. However no one needed to come out of the dining room hungry as there was adequate food available if you wanted it. The sweets left much to be desired. The staff in the dining room were very efficient although sometimes I thought that they weren't all that happy in their work!!

Staff. Most of them very pleasent and helpful.

Would I go back???? Most certainly, but only on a B&B basis. It is an above average 3 star hotel for comfort but not for food.

  • Liked — Position, staff, cleanliness
  • Disliked — Towels only changed every 2 days, food.
  • Tips/Secrets — Bed and breakfast only.

“It's a crazy hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2006

I was for the thirth time in Kriti Beach this year and it was very great again! The staff is verry helpfull and they have always time for a little talk. The beach and the centre are verry near the hotel. You across the streat and you are on the beach.

The rooms in the hotel are also verry good! The rooms get cleaned every day,and after every 2 days you get clean towels. The dinner and breakfast are not so good, it's the most of the time the same. Also one evening in the week, there is a Greek night, with Greek music and greek dancers. That's also verry great!!

I deffintly going back one more time!

“Are you sure to choose this hotel?”

The Hotel is a new building: bedrooms, bathrooms and others locals are simple but clean. The staff is helpful (except for waiters). The localization is good with respect to the old centre and the sea. On the other hand we are not satisfied about the quality of food served during breakfast and dinner. They served tinned fruits instead of fresh ones (in summer there is more fruit in Crete), freeze pizza, fruit jelly and dried chocolate mousse as dessert… they never served traditional honey cakes. The breakfast was ever the same with less variety of food… (during our stay, a German family had a breakfast in the hotel with bread, cheese and cold meats bought at the supermarket by themselves …).
We had to pay for all the drinks also for water (in general, when drinks are not included in the price, water is present in the dinner room in the automatic distributors, is not it ? In our previous experiences, it was!).
For the Typical Greek Dinner they asked for a (optional) contribution of 2 euros per person for paying the dancer!!! (Absurd) During this dinner we payed 4.5 euros for a half bottle of water and a little glass of draught beer…
Moreover they had a strange way of playing concerning the end of dinner time. They took away all food even if there were still costumers in the room: the buffet was removed at 9 o’clock!!! Really unpolite…
Shampoo and shower soap were missing in the bathroom… it is very unusual for a 3 stars hotel (cat. B)!

  • Liked — Only the room and reception staff.
  • Disliked — The breakfast/dinner and the quality of food.

I always say to my staff that our guests are allowed to like or dislike our hotel even
when our effort is, to make them enjoy their holidays. I would like though, to correct some things in this review.
1.The hotel is not a new building it’s one of the first hotels in Rethymno, it operates since 1984. Every year there has been a partly renovation in order to look like a new hotel.
2.During breakfast there also fresh fruits served along with tinned fruits and during dinner only fresh fruits are served.
3.As dessert we serve chocolate/ vanilla mousse, fruit jelly , ravani( a sort of cake with syrup) , panacota etc. It’s always, one different dessert for each day. No one is allowed to bring their own food in the restaurant and that’s general for all hotels in Crete.
4.As I’m also traveling along Europe, many times in Italy, I’ve never been in a hotels’ restaurant that water was free and self-service. I had to pay each time and I never complained about it.
5.The 2 euros contribution, is optional, written in all languages (the hotel accommodates a lot of different nations). On the other hand, in all the other hotels I used to work, people had to pay more than 10 euros in order to participate in a Greek Night’ show. Bottle of water 0,90 euros, small drought beer 2,50 euros.
6.Polite or impolite our guests have to respect the opening and closing time of the restaurant or bar. They have also to remember that the staff needs to rest and that they are not, non- stop machines. Information in room, in lobby and restaurant explains that the restaurant operates from 19:00 till 21:00.

Generally speaking, as that’s my job for many years, a tip for all travelers (including myself). People that want to have a nice time are always doing it. They enjoy each minute because they just want to. So before going to our next holidays we have just to say to ourselves that no matter what, I’ll have a good time, make new friends, meet people from other countries and relax.

“4th year Rethymnon, 1st year 3* only”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2006

We had chosen the hotel because this time we wanted to have a view to the sea (at least sideway). The last years it had always been 4 star hotels but with no possibilitiy to view the sea. Since we had an idea where to place the hotel we knew that it would be loud from traffic and therefore this was o.k. for us. The hotel is situated just across the beach, divided only by a much used road. The hotel pool is very small and people walking along the street can easily watch one swimming or tanning. Our room was small and not efficiently equipped with wardrobes and parts of our clothing had to remain in the suitcases. The refrigerator is also very small and can only hold small amount of beverages - there is no freezer compartment incl., although a small iceupe box can be placed on top of the cooling agregate and freezes water. (Faint chance to have a cold cold Ouzo ). Also the cooling was somewhat o.k. only abt. 2 days after arrival.
The airconditioner was fairly o.k. since not well cleaned - only on the right side of it cool air was able to come out. Since the hotel puts signs out to safe energy and to quit all energy sources once leaving the room it is surprising that the air conditioner even runs without the door key in lock and also the balkony doors can be open and it keeps running. The bathroom is well equipped but with only barly light. Really good was that at all times one was able to have a shower with good temperature and pressure (this was not common in our other hotels!). Towels were changed every 2nd day and fine for me, however my suggestion for future guest - hide a role of toiletpaper somewhere, without this wise idea of mine we would have had a problem one day. The breakfast is the usual greek one you get everywhere (cereal variety, bread, cheese and cold cuts) but here even with less varitiy (every 2nd day scrambled eggs with bacon, inbetween boiled eggs or fried eggs with sausage). They do not even have a toaster - coffee was great though!
Dinner was more or less o.k. - since we have skipped 2 nights to get a good fish plate- I can not say for all nights. There is always a variety of salads (although in some salads it looked like leftovers from the other night were taken, but this was absolutely o.k. for me), the hot meals were like "you like it or not"
- 4-5 different hot boxes with vegetables, meat, fish, noodles, potatoes or likly and everyone's taste is different but more then once I had to drink a lot of water afterwards because of the saltiness.
I can not say anything against the service team - they are always polite and quick for bringing the drinks and cleaning the tables.
This turnes out to be not the high ranking report but as previously written it is my first 3 star hotel. Overall we have had a pleasant and relaxing holiday ( we are easy to accomodate to situations;-) ). If you have booked to Kritti Beach already - it is really o.k. (but try to learn some russian incase you want to get some holiday friends - (this not only goes for this hotel))
