“Terrible place to stay”

We read the lonely planet and it gave it a reasonable write up so we booked it the day before sight unseen. That was a big mistake. We arrived on the ferry at night and got a taxi to the hotel. The lobby is large and looks reasonable but the guy at the desk was so uninterested and rude. We got a room with a balcony but the bathroom was a disgrace. The shower head had no where to hook on to and you had to sit on the toilet sideways as there was no room for your legs. It is very dated but that can be overlooked if it was all kept clean and problem free. The room got hot during the night and surprise surprise the airconditioner didn't work. We opened the window to the balcony only to be greeted by a lot of noise due to night clubs and grabage trucks. Needless to say we did not get any sleep. When we mentioned it the next morning we were greeted with the same uniterested attitude, no caring attitude not even a sorry. Other hotels in the area send people to this one when they are full so the Irini doesn't even have to try and be clean or neat or even maintain its rooms as unsuspecting travellers have no other choice. Definitely give this one a miss. I doubt that the Lonely Planet guy stayed there as he would not have given it the write up that he did.

“Simple but more than good enough for a couple of nights stopover.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2010

My partner and I stayed for 2 nights on our return from Chania as we were flying at an unusual time from Heraklion back to the UK.
The hotel was clean and tidy and while the rooms were basic and a little dated they were perfectly suited to what we needed for a couple of nights stay.
The room had one single bed as well as a double, a small balcony and bathroom. The bathroom was adequate, everything worked, if a little tired in terms of the finish. The avocado colour scheme was very 70's!
The guys on reception were very friendly and happy to help with any questions we had. The location is pretty good as well what with the port, bus station and main bars and restaurants all within a 10 minute walk.
The only down side is that there is currently a multi storey car park being built opposite but then again with the black out blinds and patio door both being shut there is very little noise intrusion.

All in all this is not a bad hotel and for the price it's pretty good to use as a stop off point.
I'd not recommend it as somewhere to stay for a week but then again if you wanted better you'll have to pay for it.

“Central location, good price, attentive staff, noisy surrounding daytime works.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2010

We booked a few hours before arriving. Very attentive recpetion. Bathroom floor was wet. air con, ddin't work. They offered to change the room but we didn't bother as it was too late and we were tired. Following day I had some work to do. Internet connection fine but at 3euro/hour. However the construction site next door was extremely noisy. Without asking the hotel offered not to charge for breakfast for the inconvenience. Overall good value for money and very close to travel agency and laundry which we needed to do. Old town attractions are all very close. Note that Lonely Planet's guide map show the hotel one street further north.

“Great for 1 night before the early morning ferry”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2010

I disagree with previous reviews here saying that the hotel is "a dingy dive masquerading as a luxury hotel" or that its "shining lobby promised luxury" or even that it was the kind of hotel you'd "splurge" in. From the get go you can tell it's a two star hotel with basic but clean accommodation - under no circumstances did we think we were entering a Shangri-La or a Four Seasons! But saying that, it's no "dingy dive" either and you couldn't accuse it of trying to be something it's not.

Throughout the hotel's public areas and rooms, furnishings are simple and maybe a bit worn yes, but it is a clean hotel and we didn't have any problem staying there for one night before we took our ferry to Santorini the next morning.

The rooms were clean, quiet and comfortable enough for one night. Ours had a double bed and single bed, a balcony and small bathroom. This is the first hotel we stayed in in Greece where the hotel had a shower curtain however the curtain didn't touch the floor so it leaked anyway - defeating the purpose of having a shower curtain in the first place!

Location wise it's very handy. Only a few minutes walk to the bus station, to the port and to the main street where you'll find the restaurants, kebabs, bars and shops.

We hadn't reserved a room, we were just "walk-ins" off the street and paid €50 for the room without breakfast which we thought was reasonable for Greece in saturated, touristy-mid August.

So if you're just passing through Heraklion to catch the bus to other parts of Crete or the ferry to other islands (as we were) and need a clean, no frills place to lay your head for the night I'd have no problem recommending this hotel. If you require more bells and whistles, try the Megaron down by the port but expect to pay at least triple the price.

“Rooms are good, breakfast was good...”

Rooms are good, breakfast was good, bathroom was good, view wasn't too bad either, construction work across the road didn't effect at all. Helpful & friendly staff.
