“Perfect boutique hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

I stayed at the Lato Boutique Hotel during June 2011. We arrived on the late ferry and it was so nice to check into a really clean, friendly, professional hotel.
The bed was amazing - big! and comfortable.
En-suite was perfect, powerful shower and very clean.
The breakfast was good also, a big selection of breads and cheese.
The hotel staff were very friendly. We tried to book another few nights at the same hotel, but there were no vacancies. So I would recommend booking inadvance as we weren't the only guests wanting to extend their stay.
I would defiantly recommend this hotel if you were stay in Crete, I really liked Heraklion too. A good place to visit places around Crete from!

“Fabulous service! Couldn't ask for more.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

I actually stayed in July 2010 but I never had the time to write the review. I flew in from Athens, tired and suffering from a bad case of jetlag. As I was way earlier than the check in time, I asked the front staff if I could have my room early. They informed me that the room was not ready however, gave me another room to rest and told me that after I have woken up, I could then get my actual room key from them! The service from the staff (front as well as the restaurant) has been first class. They made me feel like I was a part of a huge Greek family! Location wise, I loved the view from my room. The bed was very comfortable and I only have very pleasant memories of this place. If I ever return to Heraklion, I would definitely stay at this establishment!

“January business good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

I stayed here for 5 nights in January on business (4th time in Iraklion on biz). It was COLD, windy and rainy so didn't get much use of my huge balcony facing the city with a side view to the sea. It's 10 euro taxi from the airport - there is a bus not too far but good luck finding your way around in this Minoan maze. Reception was very gracious and helpful throughout my stay. About 20 others in my 'group' and many also spent a freezing night unable to get the a/c-heater working properly - call the desk and let them set it. Room not much bigger than balcony (#309) shower not for large people but everything else functioned properly including internet. Breakfast ample enough - dont miss the 'Greek pancakes' fried dough fritters with a bit of cheese. Good location - just down below you can see the fishermen's marina which leads to the 'Sea Walk' past the Venetian fortress (about 45 min RT walk -- do it!) just opposite the walk there is a fantastic fish restaurant - 'A Little Wine, A little Sea' (no name in Latin letters so just know it is just opposite the walk and is glassed in with wooden tables. Gets very busy after about 10 - packed with locals, fantastic sea food at great prices - wonderful service - very casual, smoker-friendly, went there twice this trip. There are restaurants all around the hotel as well, and a tiny 'market' with great bread, feta, fruit-vegs open in the day. A Roman Catholic church is just 200 meters on the right (1 Mass at 10 a.m. Sunday). Best of all the hotel has a huge sign on top which makes it easier to find as you wander the incredible zig-zagging narrow streets. Very disorienting. lovely souvenir shops run by very friendly older women just turn right to a wide street. Tell Eva I sent you - she'll give you coffee and lessons on all the legends represented by her wares. Hotel is ok - better than small Castro but of course nothing in comparison to the 'Areolithos' fabulous cat compound - complex but you need a car for that.It is cold in January. Bring gloves.

Room Tip: ask for sea-side upper but beware tiny elevators

“An over night stay in Herakleion at the Lato”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

This is a very small, quiet and intimate hotel, with the quality and services of a large urban luxury hotel. The rooms are spacious and comfortable--especially the beds--certainly comparable to if not better than the Sofitel. The view from the back and east is excellent--a nice balcony with a view of the harbor. Traveling to Herakleion over the past 44 years, I have stayed in dozens of hotels--of all sizes and price ranges--and this one is by far the best, and certainly the most convenient for travelers (near the bus, boat, and easy escape to the coast road to the airport), tourists (museum, and the center), and business.
The service and staff are excellent--they will find you parking (and park your car for you free of charge), and bring you everything you need. An anecdote about the staff--a colleague of mine a few years ago broke several ribs climbing in Psiloritis; after two months in the hospital, he needed more time to recuperate before flying, and stayed in the Lato for a few weeks. The hotel staff treated him like royalty--it was difficult for him to leave his room, so he had room service (at no extra charge) on demand, and was brought everything to make him comfortable.
For me--an overnight stay on business--this was by far the most pleasant and enjoyable hotel experience I have had anywhere in Greece or the world for that matter.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back of the hotel (north side) have a very nice view of the harbor and Venetian for...
