“Great place to stay, great location on harbour of Chania!”

My husband and I stayed here on the first leg of our trip to Greece for our honeymoon in the summer of 2010. What a great start to our trip! This hotel was right on the harbour, and we were given the choice between a quieter room off to the side, and a room at the front with a balcony overlooking the harbor, even though our reservation had indicated a different (less desirable) room. We had read the reviews about the noise, but still took the front room. We were happy we did - no problems sleeping at night (although we could hear some noise). There were some stairs to get to the room, but we made it back every time! We didn't think they were out of line, given that we were staying in a very old-world establishment. The staff was always very helpful, the breakfast was convenient and quaint, and our room was very comfortable. We would love to take another trip to Greece someday, and we would stay here again in a heartbeat. Recommendation on Crete- if you're able to take a trip to Elafonisi, do it!

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper, don't choose a room at the front- but if you can stand it, it'...

“Chania a great city”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

The Amphora hotel in Chania is located superb. Right in the middle of the old city.
The room was ok. The mattrass was very bad, we had to turn several times a night because it was too hard and of poor quality.
The roof terrace was great and had a beautiful view over the harbour of Chania.
The breakfast lady was very unkind and rude. She yelled at us in a very unpleasant way. We never came back.
Chania has a lot of restaurants and tavernas. The best are in the small streets of the old town.
The best restaurant was "To Stachi" a great vegetarian restaurant. Go there and enjoy a great vegetarian meal and the friendly couple who runs this fantastic restaurant!

“Clean hotel with amazing view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2011

We had a great stay at Amphora Hotel in August 2011.
The stuff was really polite and the cleanliness of the room was daily.
Amazing view from the room but quite noisy during the evening (if you want to sleep early) due to some bars and cafes that stay open until really late just under the hotel's balconies.
Price was high and not included breakfast. But August is the busiest month to visit Chania.
On the other hand, living in a room with such a great view of the old venetian harbor is an experience that everyone who visits Chania has to live :)

Room Tip: Rooms with balcony in front have amazing view of the old harbor BUT they have noise during the night...

“Above and Beyond...”

Amphora is very comfortable and the staff are superb in their desire to please. They're busy but if you make your needs known, they bend over backward to help you. It's not a luxurious hotel by American standards but it's an authentic old-world European establishment in a fabulous location close to the waterfront, tavernas, bars, shops, museum, Venetian breakwater, monuments, etc. We stayed in Room 10, which has a roof garden overhead and thus is quiet. There was plenty of hot water with two twin beds pushed together to form a king-size sleeping surface. The breakfast is simple but fresh. The only mistake we made was arriving late on a Friday night during high season and thus parking all over Old Town and Old Harbor was totally impossible and impassable. We had to leave our car elsewhere in the city and take a cab to the hotel. But they have a restaurant and are very close to a great museum.

Room Tip: Be specific about your needs when you make your reservation. If you need a quiet room, it's best...
