My husband, grown daughter and I travelled to Chania as the last leg of our itinerary-full trip. We had booked the ground level studio apartment online and our bad for not checking the photos with a little more scrutiny and asking a few more questions. Namely in our opinion the studio did not offer enough privacy or space for three adults for one week and we ended up renting another room from a different proprietor down the road for our daughter. What she got was a larger, brighter place with access to a lovely rooftop deck, daily room cleaning, and breakfast included for 20 Euros a night less than what we were paying for our studio. Mind you our studio was perfectly adequate: on the plus side, the quarters were clean and well located. The owner is very friendly and helpful e.g. she very nicely adjusted our bill given that we only ended up with two people staying in the room. On the down side the studio is a bit dark. I just double-checked online (9/11/11) and the posted photos seem to have been taken with all of the ground-floor shutters open (we kept them closed to have some privacy) and with all of the lights turned on and so the studio appears lighter than it really is. It's also a bit noisy at night but this is not unique to this studio -- in fact it's location is on a relatively quiet side alley. But by virture of the fact that this old Venetian section of Chania consists of very narrow streets and close quarters, you're bound to hear late night chatter, occasional fighting cats, and ahem... late summer night lovemaking! All part of the charm! All in all this is a good place to stay for two adults, or two adults with a small child. Would just say that at this time of year (last week of August, beginning of September) there are plenty of other options available that you might want to look into to make sure all of your needs and expectations are met.
