“A Perfect Place for R&R in an Elegant, Peaceful Setting”

My husband and I visited Crete for the first time, and found a gem of a place to stay in Samonas. Very impressed with the quality of the accommodations, with quality furnishings and many small touches in each room. What's most interesting is that that the owner personally designed, remodeled and decorated each villa. We needed quiet rest and relaxation, and were very pleased with this hillside retreat. Definately a place we recommend and would come back to!

“Yet again, a perfect stay”

Our second stay. Equally peaceful, beautiful, and a real treasure. A gorgeous retreat from the bussle and hassles of life. Each house is meticulously furnished and designed and conscientiously managed by Constantinos, A week of mountain exploring, eating, and becoming human again. Probably best enjoyed without the children !

“The perfect start to our honeymoon”

Laid out over 4 levels our apartment was one of the most luxurious and authentic apartments I've ever stayed in. We had been rushing around for the last few months preparing for our wedding and it was the best place to just dump our luggage and chill. We swam, read, walked and ate the most amazing breakfasts (you have to try their breakfasts, all of the produce is locally sourced and we had different food every day - there would be a knock at the door (whatever time you wanted) and the most amazing breakfast was left out on your balcony. Both the owner and Katerina (the friendliest lady in the world who does not stop smiling) made us feel so welcome and relaxed from the start. Christianos the owner has clearly spent lots of effort and time on making this a true 'mountain retreat'. We loved it. There is also a beautiful taverna one minute walk away, but it is the only one within walking distance.

“even an ash cloud could not keep us away from this little paradise”

Indeed, we had some trouble to get there, but it was more then worthwile.
We really loved the road up in the mountains to samonas. We enjoyed every view after each turn, and were very much surprised by the warm welcome of Konstatinos once we arrived at our destination. A litle paradise in a litlle village with only friendly people where we enjoyed the silence, the beautifull views in the morning and the evening.
Rooms are absolutly clean, the housekeeper realy takes good care of you, and in case you need some help about what to visit or to do, just ask Konstantinos. He has some superb suggestions...
A place where we will surely return to!

“Gorgeous mountain getaway near Chania, Crete”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 May 2010

We recently stayed at Samonas for 10 days in May, 2010 during our visit to Crete. This was our second trip to Crete - our first was 10 years ago and we stated in Chania. The location was spectacular: in a small village in the mountains of Crete near Chania, with goats, pigs, sheep, and chickens wandering about the pastures nearby. The buildings were very well restored: beautiful architecture, traditional materials and layouts, but with modern amenities. Our apartment had fridge, kitchen, washer/dryer. Getting there is a 25 minute drive up a mountain road through small villages - very beautiful. Services included (among others) a pool, sun deck, fitness room, BBQ, and other little extras: local foods (jams, wine) were available for purchase on site. The owner (Konstantinos) organized an on-site barbecue one afternoon with the guests and some friends, which turned out to be quite enjoyable and provided everyone with a more homey taste of Greek hospitality. A nearby local taverna offered meals from local produce and meats from her farm, and was very reasonably priced. The roosters did wake us up early each day (and that took some getting used to but we did after a few days). Overall, Samonas was a real treat and we highly recommend it.
