“Best place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2007

Villa Andromeda is an absolutely divine place to stay! We stayed there for 6 nights as part of our honeymoon. Having just eight spacious suites, it makes the ideal place to escape for a romantic get-away. The villa is around a ten minute walk from the lively harbour which has lots of great bars and restaurants so is situated in a perfect location.

The suite we stayed in was more like a self contained apartment with a living area and huge bedroom upstairs - we had fantastic views across the sea from every window, which were great to wake up to.

The breakfast is out of this world - we took ours on the balcony and were served hot out of the oven pastries with home-made jam, freshly squeezed juice and a selection of teas - my mouth waters just thinking about it!

The manager, Athena and her assistant Barbara could not do enough for us - both were a wealth of knowledge from everything from car hire to ferry travel, restaurant suggestions and day trips - both were the icing on the cake at a truly wonderful place to stay.

I cannot recommend Villa Andromeda enough - in fact, my husband and I are going back to celebrate our first anniversary.

If you're looking for somewhere to stay in Crete - do not hesitate - stay at Villa Andromeda!

“Good try, but no!”

They try to make this a nice place but it just doesn't cut it. The hotel is about a 20 minute walk down the main road from the market.

It was difficult to find the parking and entrance as it is a few streets past the hotel entrance.
The rooms are more like apartments, with a living room and bedroom. The bathroom was nasty - - had mold on the ceiling and shower curtain and hair on the floor. The towels smelled like smoke.
The bedroom was plain - - 2 hard twin beds with night stands (and a roach in the light fixture). The living room furniture was fairly new - there was a small 13 inch tv (from the 1980s) they have satellite tv but it only picks up a handful of stations.
Our room was hot and stuffy and we asked why the air wasn't working - we were told they don't turn on the a/c when it is nice out and we should open the windows. This wouldn't have been an issue except we were on the first floor, there is no lock on the windows and the hotel is on a busy street. It was terrible!!! Between the hard beds, listening to cars honking all night/dogs barking and being on edge about nothing stopping any intruders... I barely slept.

The only thing I can say nice about the hotel is that the breakfast was good. It wasn't much but the quality was great. Hot fresh croissants, wonderful coffee, fresh squeezed oj & amazing jam.

Though we were there towards 'the end of the season' they had totally let the pool go - it was half filled and the water was a mixture of green and slim.

“Simply the Best Place We Stayed in All of Greece!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2007

We had taken the noontime bus from Heraklion to Chania on June 28. After some taxi snafus, we finally arrived at the Villa Andromeda, where Barbara greeted us warmly!

She showed us to our suite (#8, on the right side immediately after the winding marble staircase)--simply the nicest, with the most immaculate housekeeping, we had in all of Greece! The downstairs has a kitchenette, a sofa bed that can comfortably sleep two, a dining room table, and t.v. (The BBC was the only English-language news channel we could get.) On the upstairs loft was a queen-sized bed, a table and chair, and the suite's bathroom. The closets on both levels had a lot of built-in drawer and shelf space.

Helped in no small part by the Andromeda's proximity to Chania Bay, the breeze we got for two of the three nights was most welcome. Because we were on the second floor of a building where anyone would have a hard time breaking into/entering literally without acrobatic high-wire, we felt safe leaving the windows open while we slept.

The continental breakfast that all other reviewers described was actually quite filling; the orange specialties (juice AND marmalade) were scrumptious. Barbara's recommendations for restaurants in Chania's Old Harbor were right on the mark. On the Villa Andromeda's business card, she wrote out the same information in Greek since that's all most of the Chania taxi drivers can read. She also arranged for a driver to take us out to a couple of the monasteries near the airport.

What Athena--also a true gem--did to completely renovate this one-time German consulate is nothing short of spectacular. The next time we're in Crete (which would be in a April/May or an October), we're making the Villa Andromeda our home base for all other touring on the island!

“Athena and Barbara the nicest ladies in Crete”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2007

My wife and I arrived in Heraklion by ferry and after a 2 hour drive to Chania we were greeted by the hotel manager Athena.

The hotel itself is stunning, a beautiful building with large rooms and a great view from the balcony out to the sea. The pool area is also a big plus in Chania, as few central accommodations offer this and is a welcome sight after a long days sightseeing.

Breakfast is served wherever you wish in the hotel and is a great spread of croissants, breads and home made jams.

However, the biggest asset to this hotel has to be Athena and Barbara. Surely the nicest ladies in Crete. They were willing to offer their knowledge of the local area whenever you needed it, but at the same time where not overbearing which can sometimes be the case in smaller hotels. Fantastic and highly recommended.

“Queen for Three Days”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 June 2007

We felt like royalty staying in this beautiful Mediterranean villa! Our room had marble and dark wood flooring, high ceilings and elegant furnishings. Our bedroom was on a second story landing accessed by a winding marble staircase. We had views of the pool on one side and the bay of Chania on the other. We were asked each evening if we would like to take breakfast in our room, on the balcony, or in the kiosk by the pool. The breakfast consisted of warm croissants, homemade jams, honey, hard breads & cheese, freshly squeezed orange juice and coffee or tea. Recommendations made by the reception for places to dine and sights to see were perfect. The taverna on the bay right down the street was a wonderful non-touristy treat! We took the Taste of Crete tour organized by Diktynna Travel. This can also be arranged by the hotel. The perfect tour to experience the people, culture and cuisine of Crete! The Villa Andromeda is a beautiful, warm and welcoming place to stay in Chania. TrueGreece booked this hotel for us and of all the fabulous places we stayed throughout Greece, this was my favorite. If you are looking for small, boutique style, authentic, luxury places to stay in Greece, I highly recommend booking your trip through TrueGreece!
