“Ontas Traditional Hotel, Chania Crete”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

Good traditional style hotel in a location close to the less touristic east end of the inner harbour but an easy walk to the main attractions or the more expensive harbourside resturants. Many more typically cretan restaurants and fast food outlets nearby, useful as there was no breakfast available (but facilities for making coffee etc available) . The staff were welcoming, helpful and friendly the room was clean, well appointed and comfortable. Four rooms only (I think) so book early...

“A great little hotel and excellent value for money”

We very much appreciated the owner of this hotel staying up until 1am to wait for us to arrive from Heraklion on our first night! She was extremely helpful in giving us ideas for things to do and restaurants to eat at. The room was cosy, we were in Room 101 which was the noisiest room but was not too bad with the shutters and windows closed and air conditioning on. There is no 24-hour reception and the room was not cleaned / towells were not replaced everyday out of our 5-night stay but if you don't mind that then this hotel is fine! We were not expecting breakfast but there is some stuff in the kitchen (oranges to squeeze, toast and honey, coffee and tea) for you to help yourself to which was a pleasant surprise. If you have a car, parking nearby is a little tricky, especially on a Saturday evening. We had to park by the waterfront and move it early on Sunday morning as there were lines on the road.

“Lovely little hotel near the old port”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2011

We stayed at ONTAS hotel for two nights in July 2011. It is a small, friendly place, conveniently located near the old port (but without sea view). We had room 102, a spacious one, very clean, with high wooden ceiling and a lot of room to move around. The kitchen had all the basic provisions for making your own breakfast, which was very convenient. The staff was very friendly and eager to help with tips and suggestions for visiting the city and Western Crete. Although it is located near the area where many noisy bars are open till late at night, the hotel is quiet enough and you can still sleep with open windows. If you have a car, parking is not a problem. You can easily walk all around city and the main points of interest form ONTAS. We thought it was very good value for money and we would definitely go back next time in Chania.

Room Tip: We were very happy with room 102 (first floor, looks at the back yard)

“Better on the inside”

Better on the inside than on the outside. We had a spacious, split level room with a double bed in a loft area. A nice balcony for sitting outside or for drying clothes. No Wifi in the room, but available downstairs. No breakfast on offer. Great location in the Old Town and near the little harbour and lots of great restaurants.

“Lovely authentic room, good value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 July 2011

We got back to England from our stay at Hotel Ontas this morning. We stayed for 9 days there. The room was large and comfortable. There was enough room for a double bed and another single bed, and table and chairs, and it was still spacious. Brilliant location- you can see the sea when you exit the hotel on your left, and you can see the harbour if you walk 10 metres to your right.
We went on trips around the western part of the island; for that the buses are essential. The bus station is about 15 minutes walk away as it isn't located in the old city. For everything else though, the old city was exceptional. It seems like one huge market! which was lovely, as was the Venetian harbour and quaint restaurants. ONTAS was about 5 minutes walk away from the hub, far enough to be relatively quiet in the evenings.
The room air conditioning is great- it works well, very important to help deal with the heat.
The owner was often out- we saw him 2 or 3 times in our whole stay, but the room was cleaned. Seemed friendly though when we did see him.
'Hotel ONTAS is a great choice for a holiday in western Crete'

Room Tip: 4 rooms only in Hotel ONTAS so a guesthouse feel.
