Kydon is a large central hotel dating from about 1985. Overall the property is tired, but not untidy. I spent three nights here, at about £50 a night.
Room:
about 100 square feet, with a balcony large enough to sit out on. Very basic but not uncomfortable. The TV was pretty knackered and only BBC World. No kettle. 1980s lighting (dim). The heating/aircon didnt work. This is a central hotel so quite a bit of ambient noise (aircon fans, traffic) even looking over the car park at the back. Clean and tidy, if all very tired.
Bed:
Large, but pretty hard (Greek hotels seem to like hard beds). Actually, not a bad night's sleep.
Bath:
Odd sort of half bath with a shower over. Plenty of hot water, very small and knackered towels, horrible soap.
People:
Perfectly nice staff, helpful and smiley. Breakfast was OK (no better), in a bright large dining room.
Location:
Just on the edge of the old town, and next door to the taxi rank. A great location for a cheap explore of Chania and Crete.
Value for money:
Pretty good. What do you expect for £50 a night? Bring your own kettle and a DVD player.
