“We loved our stay!”

My wife and I were in Chania for New Year’s week 2012. Our stay at the Porto Veneziano was perfect. We had selected one of the larger rooms with a harbor view and sitting area. This is a very guest-oriented hotel. All of the staff members are genuine in their care and service. Front desk staff and housekeeping staff are uniformed for a crisp and attractive look. Breakfast servers are professional in appearance and service. Breakfast presentation is done very well in a large dining room with a harbor view. It was a pleasure to stay here. We especially enjoyed meeting Agapi, one of the fine front desk staff members. She was very helpful to us as we first arrived and were planning our local itinerary.

“Porto Veneziano, Chania, Crete”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Hotel Porto Veneziano was the best accommodation we stayed at during our 7 night fly drive holiday in Crete. The aspect at the end of the old Port of Chania was perfect; we had an angled view of the port and the Egyptian Lighthouse on the magnificent sea wall. Our room was very pleasant if not huge (a twin room with en-suite) but was very clean with TV and Fridge on the second floor. Sadly we only had two nights at this lovely location, so ideally situated for casual promenading along the sea wall or a stroll along the port to the town.

Breakfast was first class with a well stocked buffet and lovely coffee. One could eat inside or outside on the wharf in sunlight, The waiters were extremely friendly and welcoming as were all the staff, some of whom spoke very good English (my Greek being a little poor). With good quality restaurants at its doorstep the visitor is well served by this location. Our pre dinner stroll along the sea wall to the lighthouse was idyllic.

I will definitely return to this delightful hotel as it was the highlight of my trip. Chania is such a wonderful town to visit with history steeped in every corner of the harbourside town and outside with so much more history. Our visit to the nearby beaches wasn't so good but the weather had turned the seas rough so this was hardly surprising. I recommend a trip to Akrotiiri for the sunset overlooking the town. Quite superb and some more fascinating stories of how Crete arose from its manacles.

well done Porto Veneziano; a very special memory.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room facing the port; Level 2 was nice

“Wonderful, helpful and friendly staff.”

I stayed here on NATO business. Hotel is a little worn at the edges but very clean and extremely friendly. I had a problem with wifi reception as my room was between transmitters. The front lobby staff immediately moved my room and helped me change rooms. Great location close to numerous good restaurants. Well worth the money!

“Very comfortable hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

My husband and I stayed for 8 nights in August in this little hotel. The staff on reception are friendly and helpful. The breakfast which you can either eat in the breakfast room or outside on the terrace, specially the machine that makes fresh orange juice. It was amazing and I could not drink enough. Every hotel should have one. We had a room overlooking the sea with a small terrace and it was very comfortable. The only thing is that a number of the restaurants next door go until about 1.00am or later, so if you want to sleep with your windows open in can be a bit noisy. Only bothered me on one night though. The bed is so comfortable and we slept so well.
However I would have to say whoever designed the bathroom needs to be shot. It was quite a reasonable size with a good shower and basin but the toilet was so close to the door that even I could not sit down properly and I am not a big person. The only way to use it was to sit sideways and then the seat kept coming off its hinges. I am not sure how they can fix it but it is a real problem.
The hotel is on the opposite side of the harbour to most of the shops, restaurants etc and it takes about 30 mins to walk along the water but after 2 days we found we could walk the backstreets in about 10 mins. In the beginning we were a bit disappointed to be so far away from everything but after a couple of days realised it was really a blessing as the town area is so busy and noisy at night. I think that quite a few of the hotels there could have noise problems. Also there were quite a few good restaurants very close to our hotel so we didnt need to go to the town area every day. Another point in its favour is the taxi can bring you right to your hotel door with your luggage. Something that I was thankful for when I saw a number of people in the old town hauling luggage, with a map and obviously lost and looking for their hotel, especially in 33 degree heat.
I would recommend this hotel as somewhere to stay, shame about the toilets

“Great location and wonderful staff”

My wife and I stayed there recently for our fourth visit to Chania. Unfortunately, due to a general strike in Greece we could not fly home as planned, but the staff were extremely helpful, and made sure that the additional four days we were there we were made to feel really welcome. The hotel is spotlessly clean in a fabulous location overlooking the harbour, and in the quieter part of the waterfront, although within easy reach of a number of tavernas/restaurants. The buffet breakfasts are very good, and will satisfy all those not fixed on a "Full English".

Room Tip: Harbour view rooms have a great view.
