The Rea Hotel is advertised as 2, and sometimes a 3 star hotel. It may have been this in 1970 but today its a no frill hotel that is run down, dirty and smelly. The entrance to the hotel has 77 steep steps to reception, none of which is mentioned in their advertising. Having lots of steps is understandable as its a very hilly destination, and there is another backroad to the entrance, but the stairs should be mentioned, for the elderly or for those who have difficulty in walking.
The corridors are carpeted with a dark green, old carpet that is not only shabby but rancid with cooking smells and stained throughout. The room itself was average, however, the bathroom was very small and had a handheld shower with a broken shower rail and it was without any proper lighting.
The balcony was tiny with half of the space taken up by the air conditioning unit, leaving no room to sit there. The air con units make a rumble throughout the night which can be annoying.
Luckily we didn't book all inclusive but did have breakfast on the first morning which was dreadful. It's the cheapest scrambled eggs (tastes of 90% made up of milk) and processed ham (90% made up of water) you could probably buy...I even doubt that the local cats would eat it!
I also had some underwear and a T-Shirt go missing as well which is mentioned in other people's feedback.
Overall, the Rea Hotel is not as advertised, and the hotel is in need of a complete refurbishment and should be reviewed as to whether it should be recommended by travel companies & agents. We wouldn't stay there again as the hotel has had its day.
