Hi,my wife & I met in Aghios Nikolaos in June 1990.I had been to Ag Nik 3 times previously, but it was my wifes first time there along with her best friend.Tina's from Yorkshire and I'm from Glasgow,so to cut a long story short, thanks to Aghios Nikolaos we have now been together for nearly 15 years, married and living in Glasgow. We have been back to Ag Nik a further 6 times together, but until last year we had not been for around 7 years. We booked the SUNBEAM HOTEL/STUDIOS for a 1 week stay in June 05 as it was my 40th birthday, and there is no where I would rather have been to celebrate the occasion. The Sunbeam was an excellent base to explore Ag Nik again,we chose it because of its central location, its near enough to the town centre,(5minutes walk),but far enough away from any noise during the lively, but wonderful nightlife. As soon as we approached the Sunbeam with our luggage in hand,we saw a beautiful white Husky type dog lying outside the front door, tounge hanging out, panting in the soaring heat of the mid-afternoon June sunshine. She is called Nicol and is the owners dog,Tina & I love dogs,so it was a fantastic bonus to have Nikol there to pamper. The Hotel is extremely clean, its owners & staff are all very friendly, and its location is ideal for most people, only the fact that its situated on a fairly steep street may make it not as suitable, but most will not find it a problem. The option to pay a minimal daily fee to have air conditioning was welcomed by us as we know just how hot it can be in Crete. There is an intriguing local market which sets up outside the hotel every Wednesday morning taking up most of the street and attracting locals & tourists alike. We are hoping to return to The Sunbeam this year as we enjoyed it so much, its perfect for what we need in accomadation for our holiday, and we would reccomend it strongly for any visitors to Aghios Nikolaos.Enjoy your stay if you decide to holiday there, and give Nikol a wee pat from Tina & I.Thanks for taking time to read my review and I hope it encourages you to visit Aghios Nikolaos and experience a truly magical gorgeous part of Crete, offering historic Greek ruins, excellent shops, friendly locals, good nightlife, wonderful scenery,& beautiful weather. I will love it forever.Yamos! (Cheers)!!!!!
