“location a problem”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 April 2008

I am shocked to read that no one has commented on the location of this hotel. It is on a hill and very difficult when you leave it to get anywhere on foot!!! If there was loads going on it would be bearable but there is nothing to do !!! As a place to stay it is clean and basic. The restaurant is typical all inc, repetative and greasy but the views from there are stunning. The taxi's are cheap enough to get to Elounda or Ag Nic but we hired a car for the 2 weeks we were there and if we hadn't i would have gone crazy!! Crete is fantastic and we are going again very soon but this hotel is definately not a place i would return to in a hurry.

“lm a holidaymaker, get me outa here!”

Where can l start?
We spent two weeks here in Oct 2007 and would never stay at this hotel again.
We loved 'Ag Nic' and Elounda and Crete in general and found the island and its people very friendly.
This hotel is certainly not 4 star by any stretch of the imagination.
The accommodation is very basic, the beds being concrete blocks.
The food was a variation of the same thing each day and covered in the same herb flavoured olive oil.
There was no late bar or entertainment of any kind. The power failed three times, once for 8 hours.
Our room was flooded out three times and the cleaning staff had to come and mop up.
The pool was rendered unusable for three days due to mud in it caused by heavy rainfall.
We arrived at the hotel at 0030hrs to find everything shut, we couldn't get a drink of tea/coffee or anything till breakfast the following morning, our last drink being about 2000hrs on the plane.
The staff were friendly and polite but as it was the end of the season and they would be out of a job they had a certain 'devil may care' attitude.

  • Liked — The views across Mirabello Bay from the balcony and windows
  • Disliked — The echoing in the room due to it being tiled, also the concrete block beds.

“Great Base for relaxing and exploring in the area”

We stayed at the Hera Village for 10 days at the beginning of August and had a great holiday! The staff were exceptional in terms of catering for all our needs and giving us excellent service. A special thanks to Chantell for her constant smile and great service of drinks at the pool bar.

The food was good. However we felt that it was always nice to alternate by eating dinner other places due to us needing the "freedom" to explore other beaches on the island and also just have a change from the same basic dinner dishes on offer.

The other guests we met were a mixture of different nationalities and this made for a really nice atmosphere.

The view from the hotel is absolutely breathtaking!!!

Our teenage children say this is the best holiday that they have ever had.

“Honeymoon heaven”

I booked 2 weeks here for our honeymoon, then I saw the reviews, PANIC! I seriously thought about canceling, but I liked the View and location so we went.
WELL what can we say! we were so glad we did, the views were fantastic. The staff were all exceptional. Manolis, Irenee, Chantelle, Tom, George all made us so welcome, so friendly and helpful, nothing was to much trouble. The rooms were tipically greek and very clean. The food was varied and very good and there was always a wide selction to choose from, there was also a good selection of drinks. The pool area was always clean and tidy. The hotel is a little way out from the local towns so a car is a good idea, but the taxi's are both cheap and very efficient approx 7 euro's. We were so sorry to leave at the end of our 2 weeks stay. We can honestly say we enjoyed our stay, and I'm sure if you go you will not be disapointed

“Fantastic!.....Dont believe the hype!”

Brilliant.....For the money we paid for our holiday we were overjoyed
with what we got plus the location is absolutely beautiful. The staff were so friendly and helpful. We had a lovely typical greek apartment with terrace and yet again more stunning views. We hired a car & were very glad we did as the hotel is that bit too far away to walk into town plus we were able to discover gorgeous quiet beaches/
tavernas near by. The food was surprisingly good after I had read some bad reviews before going. Definitely not suitable for wheelchairs, as there are loads of stairs! If you have booked a holiday here you wont be dissapointed. One last thing to mention, In Greece they have their own hotel Star *** system and it is not the same as in the uk!!
