“Faulty Towers, needs renovation”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 June 2011

Palazzo Apts Agios Nikolaos

Rooms are not like the condition of the Internet photos and only 2 seem nicely laid out..

Staff are nice and its a nice location beside the beach, but the rooms are run down, worn and gloomy.
It is 'clean' but so many things seem to be worn, break or be broken it seemed like Faulty Towers.

Pros:
Clean and good location, balconies in 6 of the rooms have good aspect.
Staff are nice. Good location.

Cons:

1. Kitchen cupboards fell off
2. No hot water (only cold some days or lukewarm at best)
3. Floor tiles cracked and mosly all chipped and very worn
(as were most of the wooden surfaces).
4. Only 2 perhaps 4 rooms were reasonably well laid out,
The others are bad and terrible.
5. Bed collapsed me to the floor when I laid on it horizontally.
6. Entire appartment resembled one big public kitchen/toilet
with its brown chipped tiles on all ground surfaces.
7. Toilet did not flush, and dripped/ran.
8. Shower dripped and leaked.
9. Hairdryer doesn't work (but they explained there's another one in the
wardrobe as the fitted one in the bathroom was too weak).
10.Behind building locals hotel (very close) looks directly into your bedroom window
and living area, and they only have one room and one window so have to look.
11. Electicity dropped out for an hour at sundown - complete blackout
(this was the area though, we were told this happens regularly)
12. Electrical wires exposed all over the place, holes in the wall with bare open
electrical wires and concrete holes covered with things like napkins etc,
2 feet off ground, beware if you have small children.
13. Windows fell out when using.
14. Breakfast is served to you - its big but not quality, loads of white bread
and biscuits and cakes, a biscuit thing covered in a red sauce and fetta (this was
not bruscetta btw) a few sparse bits of fruit - lots of stuff but not much there if you
are trying to stay healthy in any way. We had to buy breakfast ourselves from the shops.
15. the Previous occupier had obviously used a few things from the mini bar
and the hotel did not notice - we noticed as we were leaving, but in such a hurry
we just paid the items anyway. The staff are nice, can't fault them - I'm sure they would have corrected it,
but the point is they had not noticed and left us uneasy about it (that has never happened to us before in 30 years of travel,, have we just been lucky)?

The girl who runs it (short staffed) is nice (but most greek ladies are), but the product is really
not at all what it should be, its about 40 years past its best and era.

Make sure you get one of the 6 rooms at the front or you will have a really
horrible time. Those 6 rooms at least have a nice balcony, albeit with a big aircon on them, maybe you can acceot old worn out and broken or unfinished work everywhere.
The rooms at the back are very dark, and your balcony looks directly into the "locals"
hotel opposite which is very close.

Room Tip: get one of the 2 good rooms at the front B1 or A1

“Highly recommended”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2011

Great situation with a beach over the small road, parking in the street was OK in May. The rooms were quiet, nicely decorated, large with a sitting area, balconies and kitchen equipment. The breakfasts were generous but we would have preferred the fresh squeezed orange to the concentrate that we had everyday but the first. Poppi and staff were very helpful - definitely worth a return visit. The town has lots to offer in terms of restaurants/bars but does have cruise ships calling in every day or so.

“One of our favorite hotels.....anywhere.”

We arrived for a 3 night stay. Warmly greeted by the owner, Popi. We were taken to our room on the the third floor and when we opened the door we were in awe. The spacious room has all the amenities one could ask for including a small kitchen, plenty of tables and shelves, a living room and separate sleeping area.....but the view was the icing on the cake. A large balcony overlooking a small beach and the wide expanse of Mirabello Bay. I have spent time in Agios Nikolaos before but never stayed at the Palazzo. I would come back to Agios nikolaos just to stay here again. It was, both my partner and I agree, one of our top favorite hotels we have ever stayed in anywhere. Kudos to Popi and the Palazzo for making this visit to Agios Nikolaos so memorable.

“Excellent hotel in the heart of Agios Nicolaos”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 May 2011

This is probably one of the best hotels we have stayed in. The hotel manager, Popi Dermitzaki, made us feel at home from the first moment we came inside the doors. Our room was very good, and with a balcony against the little beach some 50 meters from the hotel. The facilities were just what we needed, the beds very good.......
The breakfast was served in a friendly athmosphere, with good opportunity for conversations with other guests or the staff. All while low classical music flowed gently from a radio!
The situation is probably the best in all Agios Nikolaos, in the heart of the city, but close to the sea.
Service was excellent (a little bottle of home maid raki never went emoty.....)
But best of all was the kindness of Popi and her little staff!
So, the only negative thing with giving such a strong recommendation must be that it might be more difficult to find an available room the next time we will come to Agios Nicolaos!

“Wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 May 2010

One of the best places we have stayed, its a cross between a 5 star boutique hotel and a family B+B, you get the best of both worlds, classy accomodation and home grown hospitality.
The fabric and fittings of the place are superb, a lot of care and attention has been taken with all aspectsof the decor (Popi?), even down to elegant soap dispeners in the kitchen area, and colour co-ordinated soaps, dishes in the bathroom, all with a really nice fragrance, (we still have a soap left!).
The place really is squeaky clean, your shoes do squeak on the lobby floor, I kept meaning to take a photo of the loo cistern pipe, polished to perfection.
The location is perfect, Agios Nikolaos has the reputation of being 'Touristy' but the Palazzo is away from the main strip, and we found it to be charming, and the beach (we had a sea view room) the best for us as we like to swim.
The family are warm and friendly, when my wife got stung by something our host produced a tube of cream for us to use and return, its the little things that mark the character of the owners.
I know you read these reviews Popi, so thanks for a great stay and we hope to return one day.
