“Great value for money especially for families”

I stayed at Artemis Apts with my wife and 1-year-old son. It is a family-run business and all the owners are friendly. However one thing that really put me off was the fact that they charge extra for the air conditioner. They don't mention that anywhere on their webpage, or on arrival, but they DO mention that all the rooms are air-conditioned. And travelling to Crete in August, you really can't survive without airconditioning. They don't tell you about the extra charge until it's time to check out and pay, at which point you're rushing to catch your flight back home and there is no time to argue. On the other hand the hotel itself is great and the rooms very spacious for the qyuoted prices. The location is quite convenient, being close to the capital Heraclion. What I really appreaciated is that the hotel is family-orientated and they will give you a baby's bed free of charge if you need one. On arrival the room wasn't very clean but after the first night the owners realised it and made sure the room was properly cleaned every day. Overall we had a great stay but I found the incident with the air-conditioner very unprofessional.

“Fantastic, peaceful, clean, very friendly family run apartments”

Apartment basic (but nothing unusual for Greece). Cleaned every day apart from Sunday. Our apartment was just 5/6 steps away from the pool. Pool and surrounding area well kept. The advantage of the pool is that it has actual steps going into it from one side as well as the usual ladders which was great as you could just sit on whichever step suited you to keep cool. Snack bar food really nice. Stavros, Artemis, Sotiris and Ieva look after you very well. Sotiris makes a point of coming to greet you on your arrival - if its a daytime flight. Sunday BBQ well worth it, plenty of food and drink and Karaoke afterwards is also good. Restaurants we visited: Atlantis, Feloxina, and the Chinese Restaurant (there are 2 but the best one is next door to the Indian Restaurant where Den (the owner) is a fantastic chef - the food brilliant. Really didn't want to come back to Scotland. It's a shame that all the All Inclusive Hotels have ruined business for restaurants and self catering establishments.

“Home from Home”

I travelled here with my husband for a self catering break. It was the first time we 'slummed' it together as have always done 5 star all inclusive.
The room is basic as you expect in Greece but has everything you need, aircon is pretty ineffective in August and we would have been better spending our 70 Euros on a big fan!
The complex is small and staff are friendly, it is a family run complex and the owners really seem to care if you are having a good time.
The Sunday night bbq is a great way of getting to know everyone that you normally only see laying around the pool.
Gouves is a small resort and the local bars and restaurants are starting to struggle as the all inclusive hotels mean there is limited clients for them. The area around Gouves is run down and there is litter everywhere which I found unusual for a Greek island. There is 1 street with shops on which is okay but after 2 weeks you have pretty much memorised everything they have to sell.
We caught a local but to Heraklion and Knossos which is a good and inexpensive way of getting about.
The boat trip to Spinalonga was a disappointment, you only have about an hour and a quarter on the island and if you stay with the guide you won't get to see anything, listen for a bit then explore as it's an amazing place. Only downside was that we spent more time on the beach and having lunch than we did on spinalonga so false advertising. Again the beach was covered in rubish and is very small for so many people.
All in all a very good holiday and would definitely go back.

I stayed at artemis apartments about 3 years ago when i was 15 and it was absolutely wonderful! Everybody there are so friendly and make you feel right at home! Dimitris is amazing and ever so helpful! I would also reccomend Marias Restaurant thats just down the road as the food is gorgeous and reasonably priced (the plate smashing is great fun!) The sunday night BBQ was unmissable! I've been itching to go back for a while now but i cant find a tour operator. Can anyone help? Pleasee!!
