“great view but nothing else”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2007

We stayed at Vouzas Hotel for just one night.
The official Greek rating "A+", the equivalent or a four star is ridiculous, or perhaps refers to the breathtaking view that you get from the rooms. Otherwise it is like being caught in a time-warp, with a 50s look, battered furniture, sullen staff, poor breakfast.
It was not expensive though (76 euro), very quiet and close to the archeological site and museum. The bathroom was big and clean, although with the same sad and worn out aspect that reigns over the property.
OK if you are just staying for one night, just for a rest after driving to spectacular Delphi.

  • Liked — the view; being close to the archeological site
  • Disliked — the decor, breakfast, staff.

“Horrible - dont stop here”

This is a truely horrible hotel. The view as others have said is indeed stunning, you look out over a valley, mountains, and the ocean in the background. That is the only good thing to be said.

We stayed for only one night, and I would not recommend it to anyone. The beds were very small and hard. Sheets were worn and dingy. The decor was dated and sad. Walls are paper thin, you will hear your neighbor sneeze. The bathroom was mostly clean, but not great. Room was quite large, and did have a tv, but you cant really pick up any stations. The entire place smells of smoke. There is a balcony with the wonderful view, but the paint was pealing, the chairs and table were dirty, and the overall effect is not as nice as the view implies.

You reach your room either by walking down the staircase, or waiting a long time for a very slow and dingy elevator. The food was less than desirable. We had some kind of stew type main course, and dessert was vanilla ice cream.

This hotel was sold to us as a first class property. It certainly is not -- stay in one of the other charming places in town. Staff here were not friendly or helpful. We asked the front desk to retreive our bags for us at checkout as the elevator was not working. They sent a maid to get them, but man did I feel horrible, she was an elderly lady who had to struggle with our two bags, while the man who originally took our bags down sat there and watched.

Delphi is well worth a visit. The towns people are very friendly, the historic site is amazing, and the shops are interesting, just find another hotel to stay in. This place is not worth the risk.

“Much improved, I found it charming.”

I did not find the problems others encountered. I did not see dirt, open wires or unfriendly staff. I found the room decoration, nothing as described in other reviews. maybe it was redecorated. I loved it there. Yes the view was great, but the location was better, close to a charming outdoor cafe and many shops.

“Unbelievably awful...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2005

Whoever rated this as a four-star hotel was clearly demented at the time. By Australian standards this hotel would rate one star and that would only be because of the exceptional view from the hotel rooms and restaurant. The room décor was sub-standard. The room was badly painted in a dark pink and aquamarine with an enormous hanging lantern-style light in the centre of the room, an uncovered energy-saving filament over the mirror and an indescribably horrible bed lamp positioned between two small, hard beds. The pillows were small and thin, the sheets barely large enough to cover the bed and the bed-cover was worn and looked distinctly unclean. The bathroom was unsightly and the plumbing appalling. When one turned on a tap, water sprayed everywhere. The towels smelt strongly of tobacco smoke and there were uncovered electrical wires hanging from holes in the wall. On the balcony, the paint on the dividers was peeling, the plastic chairs were broken and the table needed cleaning. One descended to this costly hell-hole via a tiny and dirty elevator. There were no positives to be found in the staff attitude, which was brusque and unhelpful, or the food, which was dreadful. Dinner was some indescribable stew, slopped onto our plates with the grace of a hash-house cook and, at breakfast, the orange juice was made up from cordial, the “hot” food was cold and the tea and coffee undrinkable.

“Stay away...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2004

We (myself, my husband and 2 children) were not at all pleased with the Hotel Vouzas. It was smelly, the rooms were not clean -- we pulled back the comforter and there was dirt on the sheets.

Needless to say, we left there and found a clean, charming hotel for less that half the price.

The Vouzas staff was not at all helpful. When we complained about a garbage smell in our room and in the hallway, they simply opened the windows at both ends of the hallway to form a breeze.

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
