“Average hotel in Omonia but with a great staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

I've been there for 2012 New Year Eve.

At the beginning (and after reading all tripadvisor comments) I was a bit worried about the place, in Omonia, where this hotel is located. But I can say that you will not have troubles, even the area looks dirty and not really safe, in the night as well.

The building is old outside and inside. Rooms are big enough but toilet is really small and you will need practice to have a safe shower. Impossible to do not make wet the toilet's floor.
In the room anyway you can watch an lcd tv with Euronews if you cannot speak greek. Good that you can find a safebox, bad that is so small you will not keep (for example) a netbook.
Anyway the most important thing is that they tidy up the rooms and change towels and soap every day. (An exception is the blanket, quite dirty!).

Breakfast is cheap and consist exactly in: Bread, ham and cheese slices, butter, jams, choco and corn flakes, hot/cold milk, coffee and tea and orange juice. If you think that is not too bad, you have to know that all these ingredients are really cheap and when you will have the first bite you will understand what I mean. :)

What about the staff? That was the biggest surprise. All 3 receptionists were nice and kind but I must say thanks to Joanna for all the information and suggestions of all the days I spent there. She has sweet manners, a good english and she will do all she can to be helpful and make easier your visit in Athens. Thanks to Manolis/Manuel as well, a great worker that you will find smiling even if in the night shift! I've been in a lot of hotels and I can say to you is not so easy to find this staff even if in a 5 stars hotel.

If you are looking for a really cheap hotel in Athens, this is the one. Prices as an hostel but service of a (very cheap) hotel. Staff is a great and helpful plus.

Do not worry too much for the area, Pergamos is 5-7 minutes from Omonia metro station. Way to get there is very easy, from Omonia station (there are a lot of exits) do not miss 3th september street.

Enjoy your stay in Athens!

“Great location”

The hotel is clean and comfortable, the breakfast is ok and you get free internet in the lobby. Reception staff is very helpful and friendly. A great advantage is that you can walk to the places of interest you might want to visit. The Acropolis for example is about 15 minutes away. Good value for money.

“Crime in that area”

Be warned PLEASE, Omonia area not safe at night, confirmed by Police and Airport staff, BUT no one warned us (not even the Hotel receptionist when I asked where to go and eat in the evening) And I was not happy with that.
SO LESSON learnt, IF it's cheap there must be a reason !!!!!!

Room Tip: Stay in at night

“Great value”

Stayed here based on a very cheap price (€27 for a twin room) with low expectations! Room was very clean, with towels replaced daily. Staff were helpful and tourist attractions were a 10-15 minute walk away. Free wifi and a big sunny balcony were a bonus. Only downsides were dusty balcony furniture and noise from other guests through very thin doors. As an extra tip, try the kebab shop 200yds south at the traffic junction - excellent chicken souvlaki for €2

“definitely a sketchy neighborhood, but cleaner than I expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

For 35 EUR per night, this place was much better than I had expected: the room was quite clean (including under the beds), included a working fridge, ok breakfast (cereal, lunchmeats, nutella, coffee, tea), and free wireless. Downsides: wireless was not reliable and the area really is dodgy -- the red-light district is only a few blocks away and there are lots of groups of men loitering on Acharnon Street; very few women on the street or in nearby cafes after dark. My sis and I are both accustomed to urban blight and knew what to expect and to cope with the conditions, but definitely not an area for corporate or people with kids. (Also, there were times the wifi got real poky or cut out -- not a big deal but better not to try telecommuting from there.) Bathroom is indeed small -- you will get the whole floor wet when you shower -- but that's typical of urban budget hotels, in my experience. Staff was quite friendly and helpful overall - there was one tense exchange that could be attributed to language barrier + unusual situation (the clerk was very uneasy about discarding a phone message that had been left for me [I'd resolved the issue via e-mail before he relayed the message], trying to insist that I come fetch the number]), but they handled our other requests just fine (ordering a taxi for the airport, providing a wake-up call, and mailing our postcards). Soap is provided but not shampoo, but there's a decent bodega down the block. The Acropolis and Plaka are 15-30 minutes away by foot depending on how fast you walk -- we didn't take the Metro at all while in Athens. (The receptionist looked at us askance at our plan to walk the whole way, and Wikitravel will tell you that tourists have no business being on Acharnon or 3 September St., but we would have missed the wonderful Central Market on Athinas Street if we hadn't been hoofing it.)
