“best view, excellent location and friendly service - nothing more”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2007

At the hotel's website, Thission is introduced as a family business - and that's what it really is, with all the pros and cons that it brings. In other words, the atmosphere is cozy and the elderly woman (a member of the family, obviously) that served us was very nice, but don't expect any kind of sophisticated business service here. I think that the hotel still looks quite much the same like when it was built, almost half a century ago - so it can't really hide its age.

But let's talk now about the most important - the view! I am pretty sure that Thission is the hotel that offers the best view in whole Athens - it is actually just opposite to the hill of Acropolis. The pedestrianized street in front of the hotel is also one of the most beautiful in Athens; quiet, picturesque, with some tasteful cafes and restaurants (Thission maintains its own cafe on the ground floor, as well). The hotel is very close to Thission metro station, which makes it a great base for exploring the beauties of Athens.

However, the hotel itself is a bit rusty. Almost everything is old inside - the beds, the furniture, the doors, the decoration - even the air-condition, too. Our room was actually quite spacious, in contrast to the bathroom, that was probably the smallest and the most inconvenient that I have ever seen in a hotel (a typical example of the notorious Greek urban architecture of the 1960's). The hotel's age is the reason why its prices are still moderate: we paid 80 euros/night for a double room in June, which is not too much for such a view and location.

In conclusion, I think that the deal is clear: you get a great view and location, but you need to compromise a bit with the interior. Depending on what matters to you the most, you can proceed or stay away. If you are planning a long stay, you should probably think twice; but in my case, I stayed in Athens just for one day, so I haven't regretted at all for choosing Thission hotel.

“Great views, central location, good price - basic hotel”

During the last 15 years we have stayed at many hotels in Athens and we have learned that if you want something at the lower end of the price range not to have high expectations. This was our first time at Thission and we really liked it. There is a picture perfect view of Acropolis from every room, the rooms are facing a walking street that is reasonably quiet, there are cafes, restaurants and bars just outside the entrance (great, upcoming area), the subway is 5 min away and you can easily walk to Psiri, Plaka and Monesteraki. Rooms are very basic as most hotels in this price class are. Service was great and friendly. We will stay there again.

“Very Basic- Avoid if you can”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 June 2007

We booked a double room in this hotel since we had to attend a weekly seminar in athens. We chose the hotel predominantly on the basis of its location, close to the subway station, very good location in the centre of athens, quite safe region etc. Unfortunately when we checked in at the hotel we discovered that it is very basic, and it gave us the sense that it is not so clean either. The elevator is old , the "best room of the hotel" as it was put by the gentleman that led us upstairs needs a complete renovation and the whole experience was rather dissappointing. The view is breathtaking offcourse as you can see the Acropolis but since it was in the middle of the winter there was no chance for us to sit outside and enjoy that either.

Avoid if you can.You can find a better options at Thision and Monastiraki for the same value of money.

“amazing views”

My 5 year old granddaughter and I went to Athens to meet up with my son. We arrived first and didn't find it easy to locate the Hotel, though I have visited Athens many times and worked there in the 50's. The staff were welcoming and child friendly. On finding our room we were amazed at the outstandingly beautiful views.

It is a small B & B hotel, clean and adequate. A Greek colleague of my son's recommended it and I can see why. It is within walking distance of all we wanted to see and there are many restaurants nearby.

The situation is such that it will probably be taken over, modernised and go up in price. I hope not as it is a gem!

“very very basic hotel”

The only good thing is that hotel Thission has a great location. We went there a few times after we came back from a greek island and after a long boat trip we were just to tired to look for a more decent hotel. And one night in this hotel you can survive, but more than one night, no thanks! The rooms and the bathroom aren't clean. The toilet was leeking, the door of our balcony was broak, and even our bed was broak. The other guests made a lot of noise and they made it unable to sleep. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to enyone.
