“Greece my Greece”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

It was imperative that our 7 day stay in Athens was in a 5 star property as we were travelling with my older parents and wanted them to be comfortable, safe and happy. They were impressed by the service, rooms, breakfast buffet, facilities and courteous and attentive staff. Reception was busy most mornings catering to checking in and checking out customers and large tour groups mostly from Spain - which was not an issue. The large lounge area next to reception is often occupied by people on laptops researching this and that (us inlcuded) so it would be much nicer if the bar/coffee shop was open for refreshments. We cannot fault the staff and take our hat off to the Manager who upon our return visit remembered us and offered us an upgrade. The gym is small but well equiped, however we did not have an opportunity to try the hamam. The hotel is in the centre of the city and very convenient to the metro and shops. We noticed police patrols and buses in the area on a few occassions. Although we did often go out at night and walked back on a number of occasions I would not recommend this if you are travelling alone. Athens is a very different city to the one I remember 7 years ago and the changes will obviously continue for quite some time.

Room Tip: The best views are at night from the pool deck and cocktail bar. The views of the acropolis are sens...

“Fantastic hotel, great staff”

We stayed here in December 2011. From the moment we arrived the staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful. As first time visitors to Athens, we weren't familiar with where to go or what to do. The Reception staff gave some fantastic tips to see the best of Athens and were only too happy to help with all our requests.

We were given a great room that was very well equipped and well furnished. The facilities in the hotel were also excellent... the Gym has a view of the Parthenon! Unfortunately the pool was closed, but this was notified beforehand (and only because we went out of season).

My one and only criticism would be the location. It is not the best neighbourhood in Athens. However, a cab was only 4 EUR to the centre of the tourist attractions, and the nearest Metro station a 5 minute walk. Therefore, it was easily accessible and presented a more affordable option than some of the centrally based hotels (which incidentally were of a much poorer standard at twice the price).

For our short visit to Athens this was the perfect hotel. I would highly recommend to other travellers looking for somewhere good to stay.

“Perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

We enjoyed our stay without facing any problems. The room was clean, the staff was polite and helpful, they are alla so organized! After a couple of days of my booking, they even called me to confirm everything and to make sure that they will offer the best solutions to what we needed! The location of the hotel is very convenient for both, leisure and work conditions.

“Not a good location”

The hotel itself is good but not a location, it does not give secure feeling day and night. Athens has good transport network you do not need to be at central to reach sites

Dear Bengikoksaloglu,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us through tripadvisor and we are very pleased to see that you overall enjoyed your stay with us.
With reference to the comments about location, kindly note that the area that Melia Athens is located is full of people in the day time and it is a very interesting spot where Greeks come to make their shopping. There are big malls and many shops in the round area. As in any large city, there are areas that precautions are suggested, but Athens is not dangerous and street crime is rare. Thank you once again for choosing us for your stay in Athens and we look forward to welcoming you back on many future occasions.

Best Regards,
