It was imperative that our 7 day stay in Athens was in a 5 star property as we were travelling with my older parents and wanted them to be comfortable, safe and happy. They were impressed by the service, rooms, breakfast buffet, facilities and courteous and attentive staff. Reception was busy most mornings catering to checking in and checking out customers and large tour groups mostly from Spain - which was not an issue. The large lounge area next to reception is often occupied by people on laptops researching this and that (us inlcuded) so it would be much nicer if the bar/coffee shop was open for refreshments. We cannot fault the staff and take our hat off to the Manager who upon our return visit remembered us and offered us an upgrade. The gym is small but well equiped, however we did not have an opportunity to try the hamam. The hotel is in the centre of the city and very convenient to the metro and shops. We noticed police patrols and buses in the area on a few occassions. Although we did often go out at night and walked back on a number of occasions I would not recommend this if you are travelling alone. Athens is a very different city to the one I remember 7 years ago and the changes will obviously continue for quite some time.
