“Terrible Location, Unpleasant View, Nice Stuff, Simple Breakfast”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2011

The hotel is located in a very multi-ethnic street called Axarnon, almost you can't find even one Greek man or woman on this street, even the shops and shop keepers are all strange foreigners. It's really not safe to walk late at night alone on this street. There is a bus station in front of the hotel and there is a metro station within 20min walk. Well the taxis are not so expensive in Athens like those in Paris. The rooms are very small, old, very ugly view, not a suitable bathroom but a good A/C. Very simple breakfast finishing on 9:30am-10:00am. Stuffs are okay but they do not like to communicate with guests too much and really do not have enough information about Athens and Greece to share with you. Free Wi-Fi internet is available only in lobby. I should say, this is just a place to sleep at nights and no more.
I can't tell you that I do not recommend this hotel because : 1. It's so cheap 2. All hotels in Athens are more or less like this one.

“a nice hotel a shady place”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2010

This hotel is situated a few minutes walk from Omonia Square in tha always bysy Victoria Square next to the National Archaeological Museum , Victoria electrical rail station and rail station Larissis . This is just a basic hotel , so dont expect anything special . However i had a clean room with a decent bathroom . The breakfast was also good . I would not be staying with my family , but as a solo traveller on business I found it ok . It is let down however by the shady run down area . A no frills budget hotel. For its price it is good 2 * hotel

“Shabby, not chic, but cheap!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2009

I stayed at the Filoxenia Aug 8-11, then on Aug25-26, having booked it based on two criteria: location and price. I paid 42 euro per night for the first stay, and 40 euro for the second stay.
I had rm 104 which gives onto the street so I changed the next day to 108 which was better. I had rm 107 on the last stay overnight, bed was lumpy and bathtub enamel was worn away. Kind of icky!
The location was good because it was close to Larissis and Victoria stations. Buffet breakfast was sufficient for me: coffee/tea, butter, jam , bread, Melba toast, hardboiled eggs, orange juice, ham and cheese slices, and milk and cereal.
The receptionists were all friendly and helpful especially Christos.
Free internet on the sole computer in the lobby. TV in lobby lounge. Bar Pavlina never seemed to be open but I didn't need it.
Never visited the roof-top terrace.
The rooms have carpeting which should be removed. The water pressure was fine in the bathroom and there was sufficient hot water.
There is a book exchange section in the lobby by the TV and a chess game.
There is no hairdryer in the washroom.
TVs are mounted high up so watching from bed requires 2-3 pillows. Small screens.
Rm 108 was the best of all three. It was quiet and the bed was a double.
Receptionists can arrange tours for you.
Hotel needs renovation!!!
The neighbourhood did not bother me: did not see any prostitutes. There were Poles , Bangladeshi and other immigrants in the neighbourhood so I felt at home. Never unsafe. Some supermarkets and convenience stores and kiosks in the neighbourhood for pastries, beer, fruit, etc.
I walked from Filoxenia to Monastiraki one day, very doable, and took the subway at other times.
Truly a budget hotel but all I needed was a bed, a shower, a place to store my luggage and breakfast.
