“Good Hotel, area safe enough”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

This is an older hotel, very conveniently located near metro station " Omonia " with a very pleasant staff with good English. Internet in the lobby. Good Greek fast food ( Joy's ) just down the block. People stressing the seedy area seem a bit timid to me. The area did not seem bad when I was there, simply an urban older area. Was hard pressed to find any junkies or prostitutes.Breakfast could have been included for the price, but this is Athens.

“Nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

Hotel was nice, especially for the price in Athens. The area may not be the greatest, but it is close to the metro station. I wouldn't recommend staying here if you were by yourself or just a couple girls. But it is a nice hotel. The front desk staff were very helpful and friendly. We had an issue with returning our rental car and the man at the desk offered to call and talk to the rental car place to avoid any language miscommunication which was very much appreciated. Breakfast had a nice selection of foods to choose from. We enjoyed our stay very much.

“not recommended”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2011

we stayed there for one night. the man at the reception desk was nice and gave us the key to our room. we got in and wanted to go to sleep immediately. than i saw that the bedding were dirty, it had black stains and a hair...we came down and asked for a different room and he came with us. the second room he showed us was the same and the third one wasnt clean but we were so tired so we took it. maybe there was a problem with the floor, maybe the cleaning lady was fired-it was disgusting!!!
the hotel was renevated but it still had an old feeling

“Ok - sketchy area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2011

Front desk staff were super nice. Our balcony overlooked the noisy street which kept us awake. The room was clean and adequate, but the balcony had lots of pigeon poo on it. Springs literally poked out of the mattress. Only the sheet held them down. The hotel lobby is very nice and comfortable, though smoky! A cafe is nearby where everyone smokes, and the door is open..so the smoke comes in. The area is sketchy and run down. Don't walk around with your bag looking like a tourist. We went 2 blocks off the main road by accident, once taking the wrong road, once looking for the hotel when we arrived, and we were stopped both times by nice Greeks warning us to leave the area or else become a "target." The hotel overall is fine actually, especially for the price. If you stay on the main street between the hotel and the subway/metro you should be fine. But keep your valuables close. Police seem to keep an eye on things in the area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room off of the main road to avoid street noise.

“An Ok Hotel in a Not so Great Neighborhood...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

If you have read any reviews of the Omonia neighborhood, believe them. It is not the safest of places, as anyone in the area, including the taxi drivers will tell you, so if you are by yourself or just a couple, I highly recommend staying in another part of town closer to the Acropoli area. We had a group of 8 and it was fine.

This hotel seemed better than reviews upon first inspection. New furniture in the rooms and decent size rooms made us happily surprised. However, when it came time to using the room, it was disappointing to say the least. Our biggest problem was the noise. The hotel is on a busy busy road and the noise does not stop at all. We literally did not sleep all night because of how loud it was. Trucks and motorcycles going all night. The next problem was the fact that I found a dirty rag in my pillowcase. The sheets seemed ok but that turned me off a bit and the bedspread was a bit nasty. Next, the shower was super tiny! I understand small showers in Europe are the norm but this shower was not even a square- it cut off the corner so you constantly hit your back on the shower handles by turning, and I am by no means a big person. The last problem was the hookers using the corner outside as a base. We might not have noticed them but we were enjoying the bar which was outside on the sidewalk with plants partially blocking the view of the street and they were everywhere trying to get some clients. So a bit awkward if you aren't used to seeing that.

On the bright side of this place, it had friendly people working there. No complaints on that side. They offered breakfast which was ok, nothing special but they had it which was nice. They also had a nice bar outside with cheap Greek beers which was a nice way to end the night and like I mentioned before, they had plants blocking the street so it was a little more covered than just sitting on the street. And even though the neighborhood is a bad one, it is just a 20 minute walk to the plaka and Acropolis and less than 5 minutes to the Omonia metro station.

Room Tip: If there is any possibility of getting a room off the streets I would ask for that. It is loud off t...
