“Couldn't Fault It”

Date stayed 30th Nov 2007 for 4 nights.
We booked at this hotel as a celebration for my husbands 40th birthday. We have enjoyed being regular travellers to greece in the past, I have learnt from experience that the rule of thumb in greece is that when a local star rating is given always knock one off for a truer representation of the hotels quality. However this hotel is the exception to the rule.
We arrived in pouring rain two hours earlier than the check in time, the receptionist welcomed us and it was no problem we were early.
We found the room, it was very clean, larger than expected and to our surprise complimentary fruit and wine and an amazing seaview. The general hotel decor as suggested in other reviews was said to be shabby we disagree.
All members of staff were extremely courteous, polite and very helpful at all times. The room was cleaned daily and linen exchanged daily.
The breakfasts, well what can I say, a very wide range of various breakfast styles were offered, we were spoilt for choice, brilliant for setting us up for a days sightseeing.
Although the hotel was out of athens centre, the best way we found to get in was a 5-10 minute walk to the main road. Take a bus either the 115/116/149 to glyfada then across the busy road to take the tram to Syntagma square. a total cost of 1.10euro each.
There are two well stocked supermarkets on the junction of the main road and numerous restaurants on the coast road and main road within 15 minutes walking distance.
We were extremely happy with our stay and would definately use this hotel again.

“Over Rated”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2007

The hotel is just okay. It is definitely not the Four Star hotel that is advertised. To be honest, I was quite disappointed. It was old and rustic with no ammenities.

We had reservations for 3 (2 adults & 1 child). After traveling halfway across the world to come here, I was surprised to find that the room they put us in was really designed for 2 with the child bed being a fold out cot, which made the room very cramped. Bathroom was also very small. I don't recall any ventilation or windows in there either. There are beaches in the area (about 1/4 mile from the hotel) and there is a cover charge to get in (about 17 Euro each) , but you are not guaranteed a seat under the shade nor a seat at all. We did spend time at this beach, but had a much more enjoyable time overall on the Greek islands where the beaches and shade was free and the hotels there, while rustic, was charming, and much cheaper. On our return from the Greek islands, we stayed at the Electra Hotel located near the Plaka for less than what we paid at Plaza Vouliagmeni Strand Hotel. And in my opinion, the Electra hotel is a definitely a Four Star hotel.

That being said, the coast of Vouliagmeni was very nice and the breakfast staff at this hotel was also very pleasant.

“nice hotel, shame about the staff”

My reason for staying here was that my Olympic airlines flight had been delayed and they paid for me to stay here overnight, needless to say as a poor gap year student i was overwhelmed. My grievances stem from the attitude of the receptionist i encountered then, and it is due to her i refuse to stay there during the six months a year i spend in Athens, and i also warn others from staying there. I was told that i was allowed one free phone call due to the delays, so i did this, then i made one other phone call which i would have been willing to pay for, i then gave my parents the number of my room so that they could call me back. Imagine how shocked i was when i went to collect my passport the next dayand was told by the vile, arrogant receptionist that i owed 90 euros and could not leave til i had paid! I am 100 % certain two short calls could not come to this much, might i add the calls were to within Greece, and eventually i was forced into paying the money, which had been a present from my parents for university. I was shocked and upset, i felt she had treated an 18 yr old, foreign female very badly, and i know that this kind of behaviour is very unusual for Greeks. My warning is never give up your passport to the reception and always question bills!!

“Lovely place to stay.”

Stayed in this hotel recently. I agree with some of the other reviews that the hotel needs an update in terms of decor, but the staff & atmosphere make up for this.
It is a basic hotel, not 5 star luxury. But it is very clean, the cleaners & staff are very friendly, and are always extremely helpful & informative.
The breakfast is included ( or was with me), which is full English or continental, and lots of it, all excellent quality. So that was nice in the morning.
Each room has a balcony and although not all look towards the sea, the area is quiet & pleasant. Vougliameni is obviously upmarket, but if you don't have a car you will have to get a taxi either to the nearest metro station ( all of which are incredibly cheap & wonderful), or the tram from Glyfada if of course you want to visit Athens centre. There are no tram or metro links to this area.
But after the hustle & bustle & hideous pollution & constant traffic of Athens, vougliameni is a welcome break believe me.
But don't let that put you off.
Greece is extremely tourist friendly, and don't be afraid to travel by bus or tram at all.
The weather was between 14C & 20c for December, and if it gets chilly there are heaters in the room.
But I would recommend this hotel to anyone for above basic, pleasant base to explore Athens and its locale.

“Excellent service”

After spending 4 nights in Athens, we spent 4 nights at the Plaza. The main reason was to celebrate my 50th birthday. From the moment that we checked in to when when we departed, we enjoyed probably the best service and hospitality that the Greeks provide. The reception staff were superb: no attitude that many receptionists develop, instead they were all guenuinely personable and helped with all of our enquiries. They gave us local maps, bus numbers, times and prices. they coulsd not have been more helpful. More importantly, their command of the English language made my stay so much easier and I realised that if my Greek was half as good as their English, I would bea roaring success in Greece.

On my birthday (and I'm not sure who told the - certainly not my family), the receptionist wished me a happy birthday as we left for the spa in the morning. When we returned, in the room that I shared with my wife was an ice bucket with wine, four glasses, a massive tray of succulent fruit and a lovely card. Indeed, whenever, we walked through the foyer, whichever receptionist was on the desk wished me a happy birthday.

The rooms were immaculate with balconies offering very attractive views. The buffet breakfasts were varied, plentiful and mouth-watering. The waiters were very attentative. We also had lunch in the same area and the service was first class as was the food that we ordered.

My family and I felt extremely comfortable at the Plaza and would dearly have liked to have stayed longer.

It is clear to me that the management team at The Plaza thoroughly understand the true meaning of service.
