We made Apollonia our home base for 2 weeks. Now, before I go in to the negatives, let me first say this. The property is in a very nice suburb where we had no safety comcerns. I even walked without my husband to the grocery one evening with no worry. The staff is kind and helpful (especially taking in to consideration the overall customer service we encountered in the country), We had clean towels and turndown daily. The property, though old and a bit run down, was clean. Now the negatives... The first week, we listened to a dog bark nonstop, he finally stopped, but then we got to hear breeding cats. The property was the most run down in the area. The kitchenette could have used a little more cooking utensils, but we did make a couple modest meals. The bathroom is very small and the door opens in, making it very cramped. The tubs are deep, but narrow. My 6' hubby had a miserable time showering, and the curtain sucked in and stuck to you. I'm small, so I just gave up and took bubble baths. At least there were individual water heaters on the showers so we always had hot water. Yes, there are Mosquitos, and they are carnivores. The walls are very thin, you hear everything! It's very dark in the lobby and stair areas. The bar is staffed by the front desk person, so she is running back and forth, and you have to track her down to get another drink. The location is probably nicer in the summer, it's a short walk to the beach. Varkiza as a whole is a sleepy town. As a couple in our 30's, we were hoping to find more night life. So, not great, but not horrible. Don't expect luxury though... The stars are only based on amenities they offer, not quality.
