Located in the Plaka district--a traditional old section of Athens--the Hermes Hotel is within walking distance of the Acropolis, the agora, the tomb of the unknown soldier (with its marvelous changing of the guard), Syntagma Square (with metro connections to the airport, Piraeus harbor, etc.), upscale shopping as well as more reasonably priced shops, and a plethora of restaurants. The street to the Acropolis is lined with reasonably priced tavernas where locals eat. The hotel is spanking clean, the staff helpful, breakfasts offered a range of quality choices, and the rooms small but very nice. The hotel was recommended to us by a locally based friend, and he was dead on target.
